Unknown clutch weights and spring, please help!

New member here, glad I've found your eminent forum!

Picked up a 2005 RMK 900 151" with an SLP pipe, can and ECU reflash a week ago, and is currently busy tearing into it to get to know it.
So far I have not found any hidden problems on the sled and all the updates have been made.

However, this afternoon I took a closer look at the clutches and found a broken primary spring and some odd primary weights that i cannot identify.

The spring is in a really bad state and the only colour i can find is white:

The weights has an allen bolt screwed into them and the only marking I can find on them is done with a magic marker, very faint but seems to say "80 31":

Can anyone identify these weights and spring?

I have not ridden the sled yet (no snow) so I cannot give any evaluation of this setup, and the broken spring wouldn't help anyway.

The driven has got the stock 64-38-36 ER helix.

I ride at sealevel up to 3000 feet, mostly boondocking, try to avoid trails as far as possible.

What should I do?

Go back to stock parts to get a baseline to start from?
Get an SLP clutch kit to match the pipe and reflash?
Replace spring with new white and live on with these unidentified weights?
Any changes recommended for the helix?

All info, tips, and recommendations are most welcome and highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

/Dan

The weights look similar to the old belly busters or even heel clickers..do not like them at all..too much heel..

I run the SLP mtx weights and love them..about $99 from SLP. Or u can go with the 10 series weights from Polaris. Prolly be around 10-70 or 10-72 for ur altitude.

If u go with the mtx weights might as well send the clutch to all for a fresh balance (regardless of what weights u use) and have them shim the clutch (new belt required for this) and balance/clean and install weights at the same time.

The spring I would use is the SLP blue/pink

I would use the SLP black/white secondary spring also

And find a 58.46.46 helix..(or very close #'s)...stock sucks baaaad..

And make sure ur ONLY using the Polaris 3211115 drive belt..properly shimmed clutch and proper belt deflection

Welcome bud..

With that spring looking as bad as it does it probably would be a good idea to have the whole clutch gone through and balanced. I would just send the whole thing off to Indy Dan and tell him where and how you are riding and see what he recommends. I run the same as Guidoxpress is recommending in my nine and ride it anywhere from 3000 to 8000 ft.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Forgot to mention that I'm not in the US, and I have now pretty much turned Sweden upside down trying to find a suitable helix for my TSS-98... No dice.

Seems the concensus is that the 900 needs a helix with numbers ranging from 58-46/.46 to 66-44/.46.

The closest I have come is a complete TSS-04 secondary with a 66-44-46 (triple angle?) helix from an -07 Dragon 700.
I know the TSS-04 is 0.1" narrower than the TSS-98 and that I would need to shim it accordingly.

Has anyone tried that secondary and helix on their 900?

i run a TSS-04 secondary in my 05 975 big bore...works great...direct bolt on

you will have to get a different spring for the 04 since the 98 spring will not fit. if you need specs on which spring i run, end me a pm, i will have to look it up (cant remember right now).

the 66.44.46 helix will be fine, its a good "flat lander" helix and will work fine for climbing, but the lower the first number will help with trenching overall...but if its all you can find now, i would go with it.

Hum! 10-70 or 10-72 at 0-3000'?
Before portjob I ran mtx 74 with one steel rivet at 3000' max rpm 8150.
05 with 153" slp pipe and flash.

Do belive the max torque is way below 8150, probably around 7800 is optimal according to some dynotest from dynotech? So 70 -72g is most likely to little?

Okey, been doing some testning.
Figured I'd start out stock and work my way up from there.

Black/green primary spring (120-340)
10-74 weights
64-38/.36 helix
Stock secondary spring
Balanced and shimmed clutch
New 115 belt

Result:
Pulled 8000-8050 everywhere

Changed primary weights to 10-78

Result:
Pulled 7800 on long climbs in powder and 8000 on the flats

Will try a blue/white (120-310) primary spring today and see what the softer end pressure will do.

Cheers
Dan

So, the blue/white primary spring lowered the revs a bit more, and it now pulls 7750-7800 pretty much everywhere.

Should I settle for this or will I find even more power if I get the revs down even more?

If so, what revs should I aim for?

To recap the facts:

- Sealevel - 3000 feet
- 2005 RMK900 151'
- 2 1/4" paddles (57mm)
- SLP single pipe and reflash, MBRP can
- balanced and shimmed primary clutch
- new 3211115 belt
- 10-78 primary weights
- Blue/white primary spring (120-310)
- stock helix (64-38-.36)
- stock secondary spring (red/black)

Thanks
/Dan

you will be fine with the rpms at that range..7800 is ideal.

BUT you still need to get rid of that stock helix and secondary spring...you will get mush faster back shifting and consistant power transfer with a helix change and the black.white secondary spring. ;)
