Union Bay 730 install isues

K

knee deep in it

Well-known member
I am installing a Union Bay 730 into my 08 600 RMK chasis. This is a carburated engine. I am having a small issue

The airbox is being interfered with the large coolant line that goes from the engine to the chassis. It rests almost underneath the front edge of the gas tank. This is not allowing the airbox to go down far enough ( 1/2 inch too high). the offending hos is #6 in this picture

Solutions
A) replace angled carb boots with straight boots which will tilt the back of the carbs higher. Does the 08 come stock with straight carb boots? Will the top air horn line up with the SLP intake on the hood?
B) cut the airbox to fit around the hose
3) use pods instead of airbox.

any reccommendations before I start surgery?

Have you talked to Curt yet?

I don't think you need to cut up anything. I'm assuming the coolant hose in question attaches to the t-stat housing? Is the t-stat housing on your new motor in the middle of the head or is it on the very right side of the head (Mag side)

Some of the 600's have the hose routed to attach to the right side of the head (later) and some attach in the middle of the head. This may just be as simple as getting the correct hose.

Is this an 08 Shift? Did you remove a carb'd 600 ? That's the only model I haven't worked on is the 08 Carb'd 600, worked on lots of CFI's and 06 and 07 carb'd 6's and 685's, etc.

08 carbed 600, used to be a turbo until it went kaboom. going back to stock set up c/w big bore.

the hose is correct but you may be on to something. It comes up from the tunnel about 2" before it turns 90 degrees from the mag side towards the clutch side. If I trimmed the coolant hose so that it is only 1/2 to 1" above the tunnel, it may be low enough to stop interferring with the airbox.

That coolant hose has always been a pain for obstructing air boxes on the 600's. Anybody that has had to wrestle them back on knows. I wouldn't cut your box or run pods which is even more difficult as jackshaft clearance becomes an issue.
