Under tunnel exhaust icing issues.

My new to me RX-1 M has a custom built under tunnel exhaust. Basically 2 short glass packs. I have studied several posts about similar setups, and this is the issue. I was out in very nice fresh powder and of course buried the sled. When I dug out I found my tunnel extension was packed with ice. Nice extra traction weight.:( Same issue when I loaded at the end of the day. The stock one I have did not have anywhere near as much ice buildup. The only difference that I see from my thread search is that my system does not have turn downs on the mufflers. They aim straight to the rear of the tunnel extension. Any thoughts? Other than that the riding was great.

My Nytro turbo with the exhaust dumping straight at the tunnel extension had an insane amount of ice/snow built up on it like you are explaining. I ran the exhaust out right above the snow flap and it is alot better. Not dumping it into the tunnel.

i have the excell mountain exhaust on my apex and it dumps at the back of the tunnel also and there is huge amounts of ice buildup. anyother ideas besides running out the back?

Run it straight out the back and put a shroud around the pipe so it does not get hit with snow directly. I am trying it this weekend, will let you know.

I run the excell mtn also first time crazy ice build up:mad:. Got under there and removed all the sheilds, baffles, cast aluminun piece and coated the whole under tunnel with moly-graphite spray coat that we used on the bottom of the drag boats to make them slick. Will try it this weekend and report back. The longer pipe looks like a good fix.
I was also thinking about removing the running board coolers and going to a U-shape cooler under the tunnnel like my wifes polaris, zero ice issues and I could now run the large holes in the running boards.....

Very very well, it eliminated about 90% of iceing. I thing getting rid of all the undertunnel sheilds, cast aluminum, and brackets made a big difference. The ice does not stick to the dry film moly coat, and if there is some, a rap on top of the tunnel knocks it loose. I painted the entire undertunnel with it and most of it stayed on, just a quick spray touch up before the ride and you are good to go.
You can get it from locktite and various other brands. I also cut the bottom 2 or so inches off my snow flap.

not sure how but a sheild over the pipe leaving small gaps around the sides stops the ice build up too. Its over on the totally yamaha site

i have an apex tunnel on mine and it seems with the plate that it has on the rear of the tunnel channels exhaust all the way back and keeps everything nice and warm.
