Two Wheel Kit Install Issues

How much track tension?

So I had the spacers on backwards. The Spacers have a grooved area with two parallel flat tracks that will match perfectly with the alignment of the track rails.
There are two large lock washers that were already on the bogi wheel bolts. However, the BDX kit comes with two large conical spacers. The question is to use the exsiting lock washers on top of the conical spacers or not?

Secondly, what is the correct track tension, or slack?
Input would be welcome here.

The manual says,
pull down in center 20 lbs , 1 3/4".

Me, loose but not ratcheting(trial and error)

To Sum Up....

Loosen the track.

You do not need to remove both axle bolts. I still have one half assembled in the garage. If you feel you need to. Tighten the other side, hold the axle with vice grips or simular, use heat or some type of rust bomb. Remember you will not be using the axle, don't worry about a few scratches.

Plastic spacers can only face one way and work. The adjustment bolt sits into one side.

Don't forget to move adjustment bolts to the inside.

It is possible to get the new assembly in without loosening the closest shaft but it is way easier to loosen it up.

Don't forget to re-tighten the track.

If you are into big air, put on the HCR kit with more wheels. Two wheels will not hold up to a lot of jumping, actually its the landings that are hard on the two wheel kit the big air does not hurt it at all. :face-icon-small-hap

2 wheel kit

I put a BDX 2 wheel kit in my M7 last year when I got it. Seemed like an easy cheap mod for 20 bucks. The first time I rode it was our trip to Cooke. Rode into town and checked into the hotel and headed out to ride. Right out of town pounding the moguls up the hill both wheels popped off the bearings. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I thought everything looked good. Bought a new set of Cat wheels and checked everything, and a few hours later, same thing. Next day bought a set of Sly dog wheels. Made it most of the day, then same thing and bent the axle. I may have done something wrong, not saying it was the kits fault but I was not happy. I'm a CNC machinist, so when we got home I made my own kit. I made billet wheels, a stainless axle and billet spacer blocks. Now a have a bulletproof 2 wheel kit and should not have to worry about bending the axle ever. I drilled the axle all the way through and wieghed both. The stainless one is exactly 1 pound heavier. Worth one pound for peace of mind in my opinion. Just my experience. Has anyone else bent axles?

Night and Day

I got out today in 10" of fresh and the two wheel kit has night and day changed the control of the sled...wow what an improvement. The sled is far more tippi which is what I want in powder. Rides more like a dirt bike or MTB now. Soo sweet, just need to figure out the sweet spot now.

I actually had control of my sled through the trees at a much higher comfort level. If you have not done this I recommend doing is before you ride again.

As far as how they will hold up, well I will check in and post on this thread how they are holding up. Hopefully they just work, cause I am not going back to a 4 wheel setup (maybe the HCR 4 wheel kit).
Cheers. :wine::peace::

Watch the bearings,

istalled mine last year, 500 miles or so the bearings failed.

Thinking about the 4 wheel kit from the HCR now

HCR 4-wheel kit

I put about 200 miles on my 2-wheel kit. It changed and made the sled so much more tippy that I put one on my wifes M8 and my kit on my father in laws M10SP.

The 2-wheel kit ran without any issues in the bumpy getting into the riding and in actually riding in the pow it was flawless. In fact, if you have not done this, do it..changed my sled.

However, I convinced myself to upgrade mine to the HCR 4-wheel kit (putting the 2-wheel on the SP)to see if there would be a difference.

I simply ordered the HCR axle and spacers from AC and used my M10 bogi wheels. This cost a couple dollars more then the 2-wheel kit.
In about 30 minutes I had the 4-wheel kit installed last night. Not even enough time to get into beer no.2. Nonetheless, the setup looks super bomber and cannot wait to get out and test it out. The 4-wheel kit should prove to eliminate some of the bearing issues and axle issues folks have posted by adding the strength back to the end of the track.
I will report back.

HCR axle part number is the same as the one in the CAT two wheel kit. So if you have the two wheel kit you just need three spacers and a wheel.

Has anyone else bent axles?

I put the Cat 2 wheel kit on my M7 a month ago. First ride out I broke one of the bearings and bent the axle. For now I'm blaming the POS Chinese bearings with PLASTIC bearing retainers that were in the idler wheels. Replaced with new bearings, shaved another 1/8 inch off the aluminum spacer between the wheels (so the total shortening was equal to the length of one plastic spacer and one bearing), and so far so good.
