Two questions, Rear suspension, and tracks. 08 D8

I have done a few searches but didn't come up with much of help for my situation, so I'll start a new topic.

First question is about my rear suspension, it's totally stock in the rear, and I have to do something, I'm 170 dry and it bottoms out on just normal little woops, torsion springs are on the stiffest setting. I read something about a spring, is it the 47 degree or something? Whats the scoop on that? And also would be looking at shocks, I have floats up front and can't complain, but what would you go with for rear shocks? Not looking to spend a whole lot but I still want quality stuff.

Next question is tracks. I have the stock track cut down, but not screwed, and it's ok, it hooks fine like this. but I'm noticing the inside of the track is peeling, you can see nice patches of the fibers showing, and a few lugs are starting to crack and let go. So once it's time I want to know what I should be getting. Either the 90 duro Powder claw, of CE? I do most of my riding at 1000-2500 feet. And a few trips to the mountains per year. Low snow conditions are a norm for a good part of my riding, but getting farther into winter we end up with about 5-6 feet. So I need it to be tuff, and usable with out a lot of snow, cause it's very normal for our tracks to find dirt during the first part of winter. Still being careful, but I need it to be able to take some abuse. The 5.1 has been pretty good for that part. If I go powder claw, do I use avid drivers? Whats the best fix for solving the fitment issues? If I go CE I am thinking a would like to do a drop and roll. I'm not a huge fan of only having 1/4 inch clearance.

I know most of this has been talked about, but I either I don't know how to use the search function properly, or it just sucks. not sure. Thanks for the help.

Like any IQ you will need to go with heavier springs(.375 or .405 is my preference as well as others out there). Yes, there are springs that have a 47* bend in them instead of the stock 90*, more preload. Some prefer those and ride the shock more. Rebound is a concern to some thinking the heavier .405's will produce, not the case as they don't buck around. I run a Zero Pro in the rear, works great in any situation.

Yep that's the plan, I just wasn't sure what springs to go with. I talked to my dealer and he says he only has one size up from stock. Not sure now what size it was. So do I read this right? If I go with a 47* bend it rides the shock more than what the .375 or .405 would? I ride pretty hard but not crazy. For my weight do you think the .405 would be to much? I don't ride a rough ride. Ok I am hearing a lot about the Zero Pros, maybe I'll have to give them a try. You replaced both shocks I take it? Or does that "A" zero pro mean only one?

Anybody else? Looking at zero pros now, not even that pricey. I see carls sells a kit, a zero pro and a float for the rear, is their kit better than going with zero pros for both shocks in the skid?

I run the holz skid(not an alpha-x) with the carls valved floats and float-2's up front..much better ride, and performance both on and off the trail..plus very easy to adjust on the trail(I think holz sells a float shock kit for the stock skid)....

I think I really need a whole skid, I wouldn't mind one. But it seems like I would be wasting a lot of money on an awesome skid that I'll never be able to really get the full use out of. Know what I mean? Most of my riding in at home in the flats. Would it still be worth the extra cost over going with just up graded rear springs and shocks?

I dont see why it wouldnt help..mine improved alot both off and on trail..takes both bumps and corners better...............plus you loose quite a bit of weight(13 pds if I remember right)..you may want the alpha x skid and the evolve x shocks(way more adjustment over my stuff)I would call holz and talk to them about it...

Cool thanks. :) I'll look into it for sure. Wouldn't mind if I could find a good used one somewhere, from someone who upgraded to the Alfa X or something. But I'll check it out. thanks.

I'm debating whether to go with the .375 spring or the .405? Is the .405 over kill? And will it fit over my stock spring sleeves or what ever you call those things? Wondering so I can get it ordered here pretty quick.

I honestly dont know since the holz skid doesnt use the torsion springs....

Thanks, I'm not going with the holz skid this year, just to far over my price range. So I'll do what I can with the stock skid. Anyone know? I know lots of guys have done this. Please share, I would ask my dealer, but he doesn't know him self.

i weigh about 145lbs and went with the 405 on the softest setting they work great after you ride a few days they break in a little. at first they kind of bucked a little on trails and whoops but either they softened up or i got used to it.

Ok, cool thanks. Were you able to just install and go or did you need to change your blocks or anything? I see the blocks have some room for a wider spring, but not very much.

Was thinking about trying this out.

Don't know if anyone else has used it, sounds like a good idea to me.

Chime in if you have any info on this Nextech set-up for us guys on the "cheap."

Yeah I was looking at their stuff when I was looking to buy a nitro. But not really leaning that way anymore. No reason really.

I'm going back and forth. lol Now I'm back to maybe buying a holz. Went to my dealer with the intention of ordering springs and found out he has a complete holz sitting there. He's going to look into pricing for zero pros, and springs, then compare and see what he can give me for a price on Holz. He wants to get rid of it so I think I'll manage to get a good deal on it. Looking forward to his phone call. :) Anybody know what the regular holz ran for a normal price?

I bought mine for my 08 D8 with the zero pros last year when Holz was running their special. Paid $800.00. I went ahead and added the flat Ice Age rails (without the tip up) when I did it. They are also already predrilled for the Holz. I like mine, works great.

Right on thanks guys. That gives me hope that his price will be around my range. :D awesome that would be way to go if his price is right.

X2 on the zero pro's on the stock skid, Makes a big diffrence and does not hit the wallet to hard.
