Twist Throttle?

Yamaha now has a flared thumb throttle that makes the heel of the hand ride high on the handlebar. Its worst than a typical thumb throttle. Because of this, the right hand can not push forward very good when making a left turn, and the "grip" is weak. Why not a twist throttle? One said it would freeze, another said "loss-of-control". Opinions desired. What throttle conversion kit would work?

I think a twist throttle would be great. I ride street bikes, dirt bike, fourwheelers all of them have twist throttles on and I love them. I want to try to make one work on my sled. That or some way to work the throttle from the front instead of my thumb like a jet ski.

Maybe if you ride trails. All twist grip throttle vehicles have one trait in common, the rider stays fairly in the middle of the machine compared to sledding where your all over the place. 4 strokes would be really hard in the mountains with all the engine braking because it would be so hard to keep that throttle in the same position while jumping around

I also ride street bikes but learned how to stunt on 4 wheelers and my buddy hads a 400 ex honda that he converted to twist they actually sell a conversion kit that would probably work

The only thing would be the heated grips that might be tricky

I ride trails and cross contry, on sleds and cycles. No matter where the body is, the hand in at the same place. A twist has a greter range of control, and I can contol the engine better due to that range, even while standing up and over the front wheel. The grip with a twist is stronger, which I need when riding hot. I need to hear from someone who did it and how it worked.

i think a twist would be a little weird side-hilling and climbing. when you twist it, say half throttle, the acceleration would pull you back and make you twist it more...you would have to watch your slef with a twist but i think it would be cool.

I would love to ride a sled with a twist to see what it's like!! Wonder if you could get used to it to the point of negating any disadvantage. ??

I have rode one with a twist throttle back in '90, it was on my cousins sled. He has raced sleds, bikes, anything that had a motor. He was convinced that this was the way to go. He only kept it on for about a month. It was a two stroke but it sucked for the most part (down the trail it was ok). To make it work on a sled it needed to be short turn like a dirt bike, choppy trails it was hard to keep the throttle consistent. As stated earlier moving all over the sled is unlike any other machine you ride and it was hard to really maneuver the sled like you can with a standard throttle. What I have found is that by eliminating the stock throttle twist button that yamaha uses you can then roll the lever farther under the bars. This makes it way more comfortable on your thumb IMO. You can then also use your fingers when sidehilling to run the throttle if you want.

Does anybody make a aftermarket throttle that mounts in the front of the bars so you could use one or two fingers. Kind of like a gold finger. Some race jet skis run something like this.

You could probably make an OEM Yamaha or Kawasaki jet ski throttle work. I know my Superjet used to have one.
