Alright,

CPI Twin Pipes, RKT Piston Drop-In Kit, or RKT 827 Big Bore for an 02 Summit 800? I live in AK so i dont ride higher than 3200 feet. I will be doing one of the three, here in a couple weeks or so, and trying to get as much feedback as I can. Twin pipes would be the cheapest way to go and add 15-20hp (as they claim) but, ive heard that twin pipes dont do to well on the non H.O.s??? the Piston Kit from RKT would be a 18-20 hp gain but, I have never heard anything about the kit. Anyone? and finally the 827 big bore. Heard some good and bad things. I have an HPS can and VF3 Reeds. I would like some feedback from people who have used either of the three and from poeple who know a thing or two about these! Thanks! :D

I ran crankshop twins, boyseen reeds and clutching on one of my 01's and it was awesome (144). It would outclimb my clutched 151. If I was to do a big bore for your sled, it would be Big John or Turbo Al. Always professional and courteous.

Sounds like you already have the reeds you could probably find a set of used pipes reasonable I'd think.

Keep an eye on e-bay for pipes. I got a set of Jaws pipes for my 03 800HO for $150 shipped and they were practically brand new. Not sure how the non HOs work with pipes though. I've heard a lot of good stuff about RKT and Big John.

bigbore would be dang nice, they make some solid power... but even a rkt head with twins might really wake it up... i dont know. give kelsey and big john a call, see what they have to say

this sounds more like a budget question than anything

andy, lets get a group deal on DJ clutch kits. thatd wake your sled up bro. find other people to order with us so we can get a group order discount lol

which mod

I have a set of cpi's if you want them. They are like new. You would have to cut the exhaust exit like an o1 summit, 1/2 a hole back I think. I own a 02 summit and for bolt on power a rkt parts would be your best bet. But there are a ton of issues w/that motor. I think mostly the carberation and the timing curve was different as well. if I remember right. Find a 809, or a 900 cat or a 670 summit x motor. Thats is what I was going to do. But after burning it down for the 5th time,on the way up into Mt. Jefferson, December of 2004 I bought my King cat over the phone at Ponds Lodge, while waiting for my riding buddies to get back from riding. I walked in the door and told my wife this burndown cost us much more than the others did. Her only question was how many beers did it take to make me do this kind of impulsive buying. That was a loaded Question!

I had twin jaws on my 2001, it ran great but had no power at high altitude. Generally I have found twin pipes hurt tourque?

I highly doubt any claim of 15+ hp on any doo with pipes! MAYBE 10hp max.

For the most reliable hp, I would look at a big bore kit... I have a RKT 827 coming and so does my buddy. From a 02 hp (non HO) you can expect almost a 40 hp gain with ported jugs. They claim a reliable pull and go sled with high 160 hp to low 170 hp.

I sold my twin pipes and will be running the 827 kit with a Dynoport single pipe and HPS can. It could be a fun winter! :D

I had a new 01 summit 800. New quite a few guys here in utah that ran the cpi twins. Not worth the money in my opinion. A lot of tuning for very little gain. I'd go RKT 827.

Sweet. Thanks guy!

Any word about the RKT piston drop-in kit?? "an honest 20hp" is claimed on RKTs website. Anyone???

Nah, im not really on a budget. Just dont wanna spend to much on this sled thats almost 7 years old and I dont plan on keeping her for next season. So, yeah $1500ish range is about all I really want to spend. :D

I was initially going to take take my motor and stick it in a summit rev chassis but, plans for that fell through... for this year at least.

If you are willing to spend $1500 why would you look at the drop in kit? Why not go for the 827? You MIGHT see 20hp on the drop in kit if you got your jugs ported on the non-ho.

I was thinking about the drop-in kit because, then that way I could save a little bit of money and get some other stuff for the sled like a Boss seat or a bigger track, etc, etc, etc. Just a thought at least. :D I was leaning towards the big bore but, wanted to get some feedback on other options.

Sell your sled and take that money plus your Big "PFD" and buy a used rev. I know a guy in alaska that has a set of cpi twins that he wants to sell but he wont be around till the end of october. pm me if your interested.

But if you're only runnin up to 3,500 ft. that's not enough altitude to cause the probs that others have had trying to get twins to work. If you were running 6,000 ft and up then I'd go a different route. The other things to consider are tuning time (are you a good tuner and have the time and desire to do this) and most important $. On that sled are you going to be able to recoupe any more money you put into it should you decide to upgrade. Clutching, pipes, a head, and a little jetting would really wake that thing up for a relatively low amount of money.
