Turny conditions

The national weather service hydrology website for alaska has recorded a current snow depth of 15 inches for turnagain pass.

15-21 more inches and the park ranger(s) will open the gates!!! With a little luck some of the system moving into southcentral AK will hit Turny!

I'm gonna stay in gwood this weekend, will cruise upto the pass before i head home and will upload a picture or two when i get home.

From the NOAA site:

SOUTH-CENTRAL ALASKA...AREAS OF RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER THE GULF, THE
CENTRAL GULF COAST AND THE SOUTHERN KENAI PENINSULA AHEAD OF THE
FRONT THEN CHANGE TO SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS BEHIND IT. ELSEWHERE,
AREAS SNOW WILL BEGIN FALLING OVER THE SUSITNA VALLEY AND THE UPPER
COOK INLET LATE TONIGHT AND WILL MOVE THROUGH THE COPPER RIVER BASIN
AND NORTHERN PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND WEDNESDAY
NIGHT. SNOW COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES OVER THE SUSITNA VALLEY. GUSTY
SOUTH WINDS AHEAD OF THE FRONT WILL CREATE AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW
THROUGH CHANNELED TERRAIN ALONG THE CHUGACH MOUNTAIN.

huh

Apperantly there having difficulties on turny website. Its says 14 inches of snow fall at 1pm, and then 60 inches at 2pm. Gotta be a mistake.

just got back from a full day of snowboarding in turny at tin can. snowing hard the whole time. visibility was always under 100 feet. in the time we were there we measured 11 inches of new snow. and probably about 15-20 all together at the road. up high the snow was waist deep. roads are terrible. people were going 25 mph.

turny today

I was bored today, so I took a drive out portage and to the pass. Portage area had about 2 new inches of snow from lastnight, but theres not much there. The pass hasn't gotten any in awhile. Thanks to the morons that rode turny allready before it opens.

...MAJOR STORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA BEGINNING SUNDAY
NIGHT...

A MAJOR STORM WILL CROSS THE WESTERN GULF SUNDAY NIGHT AND MOVE INTO
COOK INLET BY MONDAY BEFORE HEADING INLAND MONDAY NIGHT. AS A RESULT
BOTH HIGH WINDS AND SNOW WILL IMPACT MUCH OF SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA
BEGINNING SUNDAY NIGHT.

A HIGH WIND WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR PORTAGE VALLEY AND EASTERN
TURNAGAIN ARM LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON. A HIGH
WIND WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT ALONG WESTERN TURNAGAIN ARM AND HIGHER
ELEVATIONS IN ANCHORAGE MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. THE
HEAVIEST SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ACROSS HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF WESTERN
PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND...INCLUDING TURNAGAIN PASS...WHERE UP TO TWO
FEET OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND WIND WILL
MAKE TRAVEL ALONG THE SEWARD HIGHWAY TREACHEROUS.

ALTHOUGH THE ANCHORAGE BOWL AND MATANUSKA VALLEY ARE NOT EXPECTED TO
SEE MUCH PRECIPITATION OUT OF THIS SYSTEM...STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY
MOVE IN TO THESE AREAS LATE MONDAY AS THE STORM TRACKS INLAND.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ANCHORAGE HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON.

A STRONG STORM OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC THIS MORNING WILL TRACK
NORTHWARD ACROSS THE WESTERN GULF OF ALASKA TONIGHT AND THEN
MOVE TO SOMEWHERE IN THE VICINITY OF COOK INLET ON MONDAY. THIS
LOW WILL PUSH A STRONG FRONT TO THE NORTH GULF COAST TONIGHT AND
THEN INLAND MONDAY. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE EAST
WINDS UP TO 80 MPH THROUGH PORTAGE VALLEY AND TURNAGAIN ARM
SOMETIME DURING THE PERIOD FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HAZARDOUS
