Turbosmart boost tee effects on boost.

I just remapped a customers Nytro with the new 310 hp set up and added a turbosmart boost tee. He wants to be able to easily adjust between 270 hp and pump to 310 and race. The sled was set bang on at 15 psi before installing the tee and as soon as I tested with the tee it went right to 21 psi. I have lengthened the wastegate rod 5 turns now without a reduction in boost. The contoller tee is turned all the way down + 3 clicks as ive heard bottoming the vale out will close the passage completly and cause high boost. I also cranked up the controller 5 or 6 clicks to verify it was functioning and instantly got 25 psi so I know it's functioning. Is it normal for a boost tee to have this drastic of effect on boost?

Just my limited experience and knowledge but a boost tee turn all the way out is what your boost should have been w/o the tee. I have also not had good luck with the turbosmart boost tee. Just picked up a hallman and like it much better

Hey Landon if you remember back a couple weeks ago we had this conversation i phoned ya to see if you guys carried hallman controllers. Like i said to ya on the phone if you drill out the smaller orphus to match the other and take the spring out this problem should go away for ya. But not something you want to do with a brand new controller and does not work as it should. You got to turn it several turns for a few pounds once done. This is what i had to do with my apex when i went with the impulse set up. I got a Hallman from Howie's and think i got the last one.

Landon, I use those all the time. Make sure you have the gated one (GBCV)and take out the ball and spring to prevent spiking. Whatever your wastegate rod is set to will be the lowest it will go and you can adjust it up from there.

So I have opened up the inner diameter of the input barb to match the output. I took the machine out and now I am spiking at 18 psi then have to get off the throttle to prevent collision in our back ally. I can handle the spike as long as it settles to around 15 psi at WOT as it feels a little more responsive than with the spring and ball removed. I plan on testing more tomorrow with some room to verify all is good. Thanks for the help boys.

Hey Landon, what I know
Run the system with no T or TCV and set the rod to 10lbs, install the T and turn it up from there
if it's set too low it is doggy and takes significant adjustment to make boost changes and it's laggy and lame

You don't need to drill out the hose barb. Taking out the ball and spring will eliminate the spike. You cannot have the auto compensator in the line as well or it won't work. I just hooked one of these up today.

I like the Hallman personally, I'll sell my Turbosmart one if someone wants it. :face-icon-small-win

The Turbosmart unit has a history of the check ball sticking causing your issue, if you take out the ball and spring it will work fine.
