Last year i went to H&R Block and it cost me like $218 dollars to get my taxes done. This year i Bought Turbo tax. It cost me $54 for the CD and 39.95 for the audit protection and another 19.95 to efile it along with another 20 bucks for something else i forgot.

I'm wondering if its worth saving that little bit of money to do it yourself.

How many of you do your own and how many take it someone

I used to do turbo tax. Nothing wrong with it if you don't have write offs. I started going to a tax attourney a few years back and don't regret paying them to do it. It's also reassuring that if I do get audited I have to do virtually nothing and he takes care of it all for me.

Ya, my dad goes to a tax attorney and pays like $125. I might try that next year but with turbo tax i am getting back about $9,500. so i guess that is pretty good.

why are you getting so much back? That's ridiculous to let the govt have that much of your money, which you could be earning interest on, for so long. Change your withholdings or do quarterly estimated taxes or something, but don't let them have nearly $10k for a year.

Ask any millionaire how much they get back in taxes every year...there's a reason people who make serious money don't get refunds.

I'm getting back $400...about twice as much as I'd like it to be. :)

I switched jobs half way through the year and they just put me down as single with no dependants. Besides i think if i brought home more money i would just buy more crap. I am taking that money plus a little bit i set aside to build a new shop!:D

I use the free version of turbo tax, pay like $30 or something to file my state and fed is free... be looking at around $1500 back with 6k in write offs.

excellent point, it isn't really about getting money back, as you can just pay double and you will get a lot more back at the end of the year...

Got the free version of turbotax, efile is free as well. Just got my W-2 so will be getting busy sometime soon.

Going to school to get my CPA now and my father is an accountant and yea turbo tax is good if you don't have many things to write off but many people really do not understand how much they truly can save or even gain by meeting with a CPA. If you have a simple return they are pretty easy to use and pretty straightforward though.
