turbo smart controller on powerlites

hi, i am trying to install a turbo smart controller, i sure this has been covered before but the search is not pulling anything
On the powderlites turbo setup there is a tie from the compressor and the wastegate that goes to the boost controller. But the turbo smart contoller says to run line from compressor to the controller and another line from the wastegate to the contoller witch one should i follow? thanks

Just "T" in in between the compressor and the wastegate actuator and make sure the arrow for the nipple is in the right direction facing actuator..

The bleed off for the air is built into controller body,, not like the one with the PL kit,, had a seperate nipple for bleed etc..

I have added one as well. The first one was by the back of my seat and only one line went to it. I ran the same line to the wastgate as before, but as this thread indicates I should have the bottom line going somewhere as well? It says in the instructions to the compressor, that would be the charge side of the turbo? Is there a tab on there for that?

Basically run the compressor side in the one side then run a hose on the port that is marked wastgate and that goes to the actuator. Eliminate the tee completely.

Well, just got back from the field. I installed the turbosmart manual controller this morning. While I was at it I lengthened the rod to get my minimum boost down to ten pounds again. Wow is all I can say. This thing now boosts like it should.
I have to get on the phone with Dave at Powderlites and hopefully at least get a new controller in place of the one I got in the kit that does NOT work. If anything I could use it as a spare.
Now the turbosmart controler has a allan screw near the knob. I thought it would be to lock the knob in place but it doesnt seem to do anything other then screw in or out. Is this allan suposed to lock it or not?

hey, i tested the new boost contoller it work really good alot better then the one that comes in the pl kit. but be careful it is easy to over boost with this controller:eek:

What is the name of the one that comes in the kit? I too am having too much boost, cant get it down to 10lbs and I dont even have a boost knob. So how much preload is needed on the wastegate to make it work properly. Does it need to seal 100% or can it be open enough to get your psi down to the minamum?

soory i can't help i don't have the answers to your questions. The fuel controller that it came with was a pile of crap is all i know!

Yup, I pulled the allan out and no spring or ball was found . I sent it back, if thats how they send their product out I want no part of it. I did some more testing on the controller sent out by Powderlites. I flow tested the controller at work, it flows quite well. The problem has to be with the tee.. .......now to get it straight ......the small orfice on the tee goes to which side again, the turbo housing or actuater. I had it towards the housing . Obviously there is still too much pressure going to the actuator for whatever reason in my case.

With daves controller the fitting that has a hole goes to the actuator side( to prevent psi build up) and dave reccomends getting rid of the ball and spring to get rid of the boost spikes, it works great with out it. It works like a straight tee and the valve is just a bleed off control valve, so if you want less boost leave the valve closed and if you want more boost open it so the psi cant build to even open the actuator. I spent the money on a hallman pro with a ceramic ball and light spring and it still had bigger boost spikes than I would like to see. I am going to go back to daves and get it adjusted to my boost likings.

Are any of your controllers like this?I get pretty big boost spikes with it.

a electronic boost controler is the only way to eliminate boost spikes but they are pricey.the halman is usually fine.

Transporter, have you pulled the ball and spring out of the tee? You shouldnt be getting any boost spikes if you have.

There is just a ball and spring on the actuater side of the controller. There is no tee. Some guys on tty told me to put spring in first then ball but that just blocks the line, so then your wastegate wouldnt ever open.Good power though.LOL.Ill pull them out of the controller and see how it is.

if all you have is that controler in the picture, then if you pull the spring out, it will run as if there is no controler in there. So your boost will be what ever your actuator is probably 11 lbs.
