Turbo sleds for sale???

OK I know I am stepping in it here, but I have to ask. Why are there so many turbo sleds for sale? I have heard that turboing is the way to go, If so why are so many guys getting rid of them? There must be more non-turbo than turbo sleds out there, but most of the Yamaha sleds listed in the for sale section are turboed.

Thanks,

Stu :D

Most of these guys are selling the old turbo sleds so they can build new turbo sleds. Hell some guys build one every year for the tune of 30g's then sell it the next year for half that.

Boy, that would be nice!! I barely could afford the sled. I was wondering if maybe the turbo took away from the longevity these sleds are know for.

nah.. I think also a LOT of people got into them and realized they are more then they need, or just ride them a few times a year and its not worth having 20k invested into them.

they also arent for everybody, and Im betting you see a LOT of people who bought them and then realized its more sled then they wanted, I know a 240hp mcx nytro is faster then most can ride.. and thats one of the smaller kits.

and the economy never helped anything.

Here's my theory:
I think for alot of people, building and tinkering on a sled are as much fun as riding it. With the 4-strokes, if you build a sled right, most of the tinkering is eliminated. Therefore, one hobby eliminated. That leaves us with three choices:
1. Do a crummy build so we can tinker more often :(
2. Give up the tinkering hobby and sit home bored during the winter nights :(
3. Sell the old and build a new one :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was starting to think that it was because the turbo shortend the life of the engine greatly. A fella once said that "A candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long". I know though that if the engine is built to take it that this is not always true.

As one of those selling, I can tell you that dependability has NOTHING to do with why I'm selling. I have 3700 boosted miles on my Nytro with NO ISSUES...compression is still 185 across the board. There are a few high milers out there with 10,000 plus miles and no issues (I talked to Randy Swenson at the Puyallup Snow Show last weekend...he has 10k+ on his Apex and Nytro, and BOTH still have less than 3% leakdown).

There are a lot of reasons to sell...for me, I'm the only boosted sled in my riding group...and it's just time for a change.

That's great to hear, thanks for the feedback. I am sure I am not the only one that has wondered about this and hopefully this helps someone on the fence about getting one and not sure about reliability issues. Yamaha sure builds a nice sled. For me, I have got to figure out how to ride before I think about a turbo.:face-icon-small-ton
