Turbo Pistons?

What kind of pistons is everyone running in skidoo turbos? I have an 800 ho and have tried the spi pistons and stock ones. Has anyone tried the wiesco, rkt, or the new mcb pistons? It seems like the single ring pistons fade after one hard pull.

Have you tried the new SPI Hyperdryve piston yet? We have seen good results on them and even better results on the dual ring.

Been using Wisecos in all my Doo turbo 800's for the last 5 years without ANY trouble at all.
saved us thousands in turbo/cylinder/case and head damage back in the learning curve days.

Forged pistons turn to powder when the deto. castings shatter , get cuaght under the big end of the rod and punch holes in the case..

its like hunting kodiak browns with NO bullets in the gun.....danger is your middle name !!!

Install them right out of the box .

Do you need any extra cylinder clearance with the wiesco pistons? I have heard they like 2-3 extra thou clearance? Also have you ever tried a sleeve in an 800 cylinder? I have a set of cylinders that are trashed from ring failures and they can be fixed with a sleeve but im not sure if i want to try them in my turbo. Thanks for the help Gus!

you'd do better to have them welded and replated.
sleeves, tend to settle after a few heat cycles. this results in a loss of clamping on the inner oring during running and coolant into the cylinder.

The result is disaster !!!

replate and or replace the cylinder.. there is NO truth to the extra clearance tale with nicasil cylinders and forged pistons.
the expansion rates are much much closer than the old steel liner to forged piston comparison.

I can dis-agree a little here...ALL stock 800HO bores are 3.228"...wiseco pistons come in at 3.224 +- .001"....so you see the problem wiseco has BEFORE you even pull the rope...IF they came in at 3.222"-3.223" this would help the "4 corner squeeek*" reputation...BJ

* and extra .002" on the corners would be nice too...

Wiseco pistons

Can you get the extra .002 by having somone hone the cylinder, or do you have to replete to get the extra clearance? Thanks for the help guys!

.001 is OK but .002 is iffy.
get wiseco piston and send them to US Chrome with the bad cylinders and they will replete them to the size of the piston.
Also when you put it together, do about 5 heat cycles before you go to brake it in.

I'm building a turbo also. I sent cylinders to Millenium Tec. and got stock bore and nicacil plated done. I have the new wiseco forged pistons going in. I sent the pistons with the cylinders and asked for 1-thousandths over wiseco's stock clearance. That is my start to the project.
