Turbo Options - For - Rear mount Built Motor

Building a Nytro motor right now pretty much as hard core as you can. I realize the 2860R that is in there will be restrictive and the right move is to go to a 2871R. There are a number of options available as you may be aware. I for sure need to run a .64 turbine A/R with a 76 trim as if I go to the .86 turbine A/R it will lag huge.

I have two options for the trim on the .60 compressor housing, I can get a 56 or a 48 trim. The higher the trim the more the turbo can flow but the more lag it will have.

So the question is what have you guys tried / ran on a rear mount with a well built Nytro engine??? My thoughts are to run the 48 trim as the 56 will lag to much, as the 2871 already flows more than the 2860, so this will be more efficient with the flow the engine can pump.

Any thoughts??

The 48 trim and 56 trim are both 71mm compressor wheels so the lag between the two are not going to even be noticable. Like you mentioned the turbine a/r is going to be the major factor in determing lag.

Hmmmm, I noticed that but was told that the wheels are designed different to obtain higher lower trims (flows) and that we would notice the difference on a rear mount. I guess if this went to a front mount I wouldn't be worried. I was just hoping to hear from a few people that have run 2871 turbos on their nytros in a rear mount setup.. Anyone..?

you could always do a ti or billet aluminum wheel it will help with spool a fair bit too.if you are doing cams & porting on the motor you can get away with a lot more,i run cams & porting with the 2871 with a high flow intake housing & 64 ex & 54 trim. it spools so fast you can not tell if there is lag have not seen a na sled that could beat me off the line i do run a front mount though..

Titanium Wheels sounds like a great idea, less rotational mass. Who deals these?? Where would I source one?

It is currently has cams and it has very little lag. so you're right I think I can do it. You said you have a .64 Exhaust housing? with a 54 trim? THat trim is lower than the standard 76 Trim that they come with.. Do you mean the compressor side has a trim of 54?

a smaller turbin housing will spool faster decresing lag .

True, but it also reaches a point where it is restictive and inefficient. My 2860 spools nice but I know is restrictive even with the motorwork I have now at high boost.. In the 2871 the .64 is the smallest the A/R gets on the tubine side. It is the same setup as a 2860.

with a 2871 for the rear mount im betting the .64 is gonna be right on the money. just due to heat loss in the exhaust your going to need to keep it tighter to spool nice. and im betting that will do just fine for flow. the .86 would be good for a front/midmount as everything is so much hotter up there. also, if your worried about the restriction, run the tighter exhaust side and a good sized external wastegate.. less worring about exhaust restriction on the top end.

this one in the .64 housing would be what your looking for IMO.

yes i have the .64 ar it helps spool faster & trust me you wont notice any loss in top end. above 17lbs boost my sled is almost unridable & see 90+mph track speed mabey more its hard to look at for any length of time. for billet wheels garret makes a 3071 gtx now dont think they make a smaller one.hta is probably your best bet in the 2868 http://store.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT.
or i think push sells them toohttp://www.pushturbo.com/
zeb has run a hta one on his apex.
