Turbo Oil Tank Why ????

In the process of building a turbo sled first was aero charger no oil tank needed . Next one is gtx3071r, would go with comp but have this already. all the pictures all have a huge oil tank is it for cooling the oil or turbo support, I understand the venting part but small resevior with a cooling loop just curious on any thoughts.

My systems have a mount to frame for turbo support, and use a 1 pint plastic Jegs oil bottle.. cooling is not an issue with the ball bearing garrett.

Most use it as the turbo support ?? I dont see the logic. mount it to the frame and forget it ..

on the drag sleds we use the little DOO oil pill bottle !!! that little tiny thing next to the carbs with oil for the case shaft....lol

Thnks clears up most of my concerns will try to figure out a flexible mount and a tube with a bit of reserve. Its always good to read your posts always positive info and what works.

There are so many alternatives in both type and capacity, Jegs and summit have coolant rezy tubes all polished in many sizes that would look so good its a crime.
all for under 100 bux polished !!

Always fun to share ideas with like minded people

for mountain riding you need some kind of a baffle in it. most tanks are big because they use it as a mount and also want enough storage for oil sloshing around in there. you dont need it big just need to have some baffles in it. ours uses 8 oz of oil. and is baffled.

U could use a rotating mount to allow the tank to spin when your flipping too !!!
NAW<< bad idea....lol

the breather I use is baffled as its for a dry sump system...Thank god I did somethin right....

the one I just fab'd up holds 500ml (16ish oz) and doubles as a mount as well. I thought about "solid" mounting the turbo and plumbing in a prefab tank, but in my case it was easier to do it the mount / tank way. but I agree there is no point in carrying around 2L of oil in the tank. My tank body is made from 4 inch alum. square tube, but you could easily go 3 inch and hold 8 to 10 oz

Do you run your jegs bottle full? I built a 1 pint tank out of some 4" round tube, but I was only planning on running it about half full. Is this going to be enough, or should I up the capacity?
