turbo oil seals

what would cause the oil seals on my turbo to fail? it used to burn a bit of oil when it was cold and clear up when it warmed up but now it seems to be smoking all the time. the turbo has 600 miles on it, and was always cooled down before shut down.

It sounds like you may have a pinched oil return line. Two common places to check are right at the bottom side of the turbo where the return line attaches to the turbo(it usually kinks right at the end of the barbed tube). The other place to check is between the oil return pump and the banjo bolt that returns the oil to the motor. I put a stainless braided return line in and put a 90 deg fitting between the pump and banjo bolt to rectify these issues.

Check the possibility of a kink or sharp bend but also check the tapped insert line that comes from the oil cooler to the turbo (bottom front side of the motor). Mine got very loose and was leaking a lot of oil. I sealed it up real good and have not had to add any oil at all in over 200 miles.

I do not know exactly how the venting system is on the apex. But on the nytro, we were running filters to try and keep the oil in when rolled over. The filters are enough restriction to cause the system to pressure up and that will cause your sled to smoke. So if u have a filter system on it, take it off and see if it cleans up.

x2^^^^ mine is fine now after removing the filter. thanks to the guys!!!!
