turbo nytro

Hi guys, I would like to ask a couple of questions regarding a turbo set up for a 2010 Nytro MTX. Is it possible to get a reliable 200hp sled on pump gas without tearing into the engine. If so how much $$. I'm currently riding a 2 stroke, and like the new nytro but I would like a little more than 130hp. Even if I could get 160-180hp that would be fine. I ride in the mountains(5000-8500') and a bit flat land when I go back home. I am basically a "pull the rip cord and ride" kind of guy. Your thoughts and knowledge are greatly appreciated.

Nope, Cant get a reliable 200 hp Yamaha turbo
I dont think anyone makes one with that little HP
Yer gonna have to settle for a reliable 240hp Nytro or a 290hp Apex (if you like MCXpress stuff)
There's no more wrenching (after install) than any other stock sled, thing's happen and need fixing but overall you can ride pretty much every weekend without major drama
And Yes, Horsepower is a beautiful thing

hate to disagree but my mcx is stock motor no head shim with 2300 miles on it.running 6 to 7 lbs at 1600 ft and up to 10 lbs at 7000 plus ft. turn the boost up more with a bit of race gas if i wanted to go higher.so thats about 190 to 200 hp.always run premium with 8 lts of race per tank so guess you can argue thats not pump but what ever.

Do a search there endless info on all the kits.. Lots of good kits out there PL, MCX, Alpine, Impulse etc they all need little tweaks etc from time to time..
I definately wouldnt go for a smaller cheaper turbo eventially you'll get bored with it and want more BOOST!!

The mcx kit I had would run 14 lbs boost with pump premium and rated at 240-245 hp av gas and 17 lbs about 265 or so. Minimal issues none that required any down time...02

the cost of the head shim installed or the cost of a new engine. it is cheep insurance and 10# is fun until you try 12# i started at 10 now i am at 18 sometimes 20 Alpine turbo no other engine work running good fuel but i can run 12 on pump

I:me running an alpine kit on an 05 vector no motor work just .040'' head shim running 12 to 13# on pump gas, with no issues haven't had to lift the hood since the install except to show the kit off, just gone to a 50/50 mix av/pump and 15# should be fun, i know its not the same sled being ask about but boost is boost in any sled 2 or 4 so go fast and have fun [yamaha reliability]

So we all agree we need to do the head shim, and depending on the amount of boost, that will delegate the receipe for the fuel mixture. I would be happy with 240-250hp nobody says you need to use it all. But like you said once you have it you always want more. And that's the scary part. I really need to put my a$$ in the seat and see what this is all about. Now what is the ball park figure to get into one of these turbo's. Do you all agree the the new Nytro with 130hp is not enough in a stock mode to keep up with the 800's?

The stock Nytro is a really fun machine and I figure the 2010's will be even better, but I went with the MCX just because there is no replacement for HP. May buy a 2011 Nytro (or whatever they come out with) as a backup sled, but I'm thinking the turbo should keep me pretty happy for a while.

T Nytro

130hp Nytro MTX is a bit of a dog for sure. No way can it hang with 800's. Got Boost? No 800 will touch it. Do your home work with the systems out there. They probably all good but you need good support after the fact. Who's doing the install? They better know what they are doing. Don't cut corners. You'll spend $8,000 plus no matter what so don't cheap out on a head shim for couple hundred and blow an $8,000 engine.

A non boosted Nytro MTX will not hang with an 800 smoker.

Now is a perfect time to find a good used low mileage turbo'd Nytro with everything already done. This will save you time and $ and messing around working the bugs out. You should be able to find an 08/09 with aftermarket skid, suspension, turbo etc that will be better than the 2010 anyways and still pay less than a new 2010 and turbo kit.

I don't know where you are at but you can get into an 08/09 Nytro MTX pushing 16lbs + boost with some goodies for $13,000 Canadian right now.

Of course prices vary here and there though.
