Turbo doc set up or???

Ok guys here is my issue. I bought a used turbo kit for my 02 rmk 700. Wasn't sure who the manufacturer of the kit was. I recently found out it was turbo doc set up. I called him and hes got the proven set up for my sled.

The problem im having with his set up is it runs a hobbs switch. From all I have researched that is old technology and seems like an easy way to burn up a engine if the hobbs goes out?

Am I an idiot for wanting to go against a proven system? Thanks guys!

Doc, hasnt updated the system away from the hobbes switch?

Docs systems work great, but if that is the case it needs to be updated. There is tons of carb turbos running around with no hobbes switch. There is always more than one way to skin a cat.

I can tell you this, I have been running mine for 3 years, Twister for years and years, with no burn downs. Believe me we have tried a couple of times too. If I remember right you have Twisters number, call him or talk to Gus Bohne... they can get you set up.

Thats what I said to him when I spoke with him on the phone. His reply was let me set it up with what works. I understand that reasoning, but her just seemed reluctant to other ideas, but don't get me wrong he was very nice and willing to answer any questions I had.

I was thinking about giving Rob a call, I just know he is super busy and didn't want to bother him until I had specific questions.

fuel pressure regulator, pump, some lines and a few misc fittings is all you will need

I understand that, but will changing the fuel delivery on the current system change the reliability of the system?

no

when the hobbs switch fails and you burn both pistons and ruin the engine in 4 seconds you will understand Ryan..

when that idea materialized,, the return style regulators were not out.
The only way they knew was to turn the power off, to keep from flooding at idle.

NOW, we use bypass regulators, return the excess to the tank and can run low enough pressur to not load it up at idle and NEVER fail a switch or still kill one when the switch comes on too late.

back then those little diasaster turbos were the only game too... NOW they are out of touch like the hobbs switch

I am confused about this. I ran a turbo doc setup 8 or so years ago and I did not run a hobbs switch? You may want to ask him again. I will tell you this, Steve's setups work very well.

I did, I asked specifically about the hobbs switch. I have also heard great things about his set ups.

Gus,

What do I need to run the set up you speak of? I have an electric fuel pump, and a mallory regulator. So what else? Thanks!

I know Rob has been sicker than a dog, and with Labor Day looming, I am sure the boats are lining up. Be patient.

Gus hit it on the head anyway. Dump the hobbes switch and dont look back. Dont worry, it will work just fine. Like I said, we are running very similar to Gus's set up, no burn downs, and they run like a top. Everyone that jumped on Twisters 700 said it was the best running turbo they had ever seen.

a good dc power source, powerjets, fuel reg. fuel pressure guage, fuel pump, return tank fitting, and rock it !!:whoo:
