Tunnel Extension

Ok just seen a thread with hopefully a new bike kit contender and I've got to ask , why are they all using a tunnel extension like a sled ?

There are other options , quit thinking two skis or would that speed up the progress of a one ski ?

Have any of you mountain riders found the tunnel a hindrance ?

Does it not act as a dragging scoop while carving ?

Turning out going down hill to go back up ....dragging ?

Horizontally skirting a vertical face ....dragging ?

Must be for getting unstuck since it was ....dragging ?

Maybe it's for right footed cat walking ?

Are none of these guys dirt bike riders ?

Get rid of that anchor and maybe you'll be able to grab another gear ?

I don't get it everything about it on a one ski is wrong .

After having a very short tunnel on my 14 SX kit, I could not be happier that Timbersled decided to put a full tunnel on the 15 SX kit. The only downside I see is the tiny bit of weight that it adds.

I didn't notice any more drag, or scooping of snow, or not being able to pull a gear... and I am a dirt biker.

makes it mighty handy to carry around spare gas and a tunnel bag! on an ST that basically fills it totally up. And after trying to move around the old ST kits without the full tunnels I would gladly sacrifice the imaginary drag for the space and lifting easy!

Think about it. If you don't have a tunnel sliding on the snow, you have the top of the track pushing you back, working against you. Also, you have to like snow down the back of your neck

That would be the cone head look :) actually ,less snow wodding in the tunnel too

Imaginary , I like that , check out a few of TS's videos in deeper snow and tell me that you can't actually see the tunnel dragging causing the front end to push and wash out the front end ?

Just pointing out the obvious , I want too see these machines turn into a turn key and the sooner they make the machine as nimble as it was with a tire than they'll have a ripping machine .

What benefit would that tunnel be in the woods with a tire under it ? Besides carrying fuel ?

I think it's called a rear fender, and functions virtually the same as a tunnel does on a snowbike kit.
the muffler is even wider, remeber all the times that drags you down while trying to make turns? oh wait..... lol

as someone who has ridden a UFO style homemade kit with no tunnel and had a frozen ice packed helmet and back, I will gladly take the tunnel.

I dare you to run that tunnel this summer , let me know how that works out the first time you lay it down to cut a corner ? You just pointed out how badly that would turn out .

And yes there is a reason why the muffler is located where it is at today because it did drag on the bikes at one time .

You guys aren't very complimentary to your bikes .

I take it since you'd rather have a tunnel for snow protection that performance isn't a priority ? Good on you .

Also out of curiosity , why would you carry fuel when you can put an over sized tank on ? If the Baja guys can do it I would think that your day ride would be more than satisfactory with a spare on the fender .

Haven't heard much for the better side of a tunnel so far that out weighs the disadvantages ?
