Tuning The AXYS Bully Dog gt or PCV

Having some issues tuning my sled its a 2016 assault with a SLP single pipe 13-1 compression head and some cylinder and case porting. it currently has a PCV in it and I can't say in 100% pleased with what I've got, it'll load up headed up the trail at around 6500-7000 rpm part throttle and when I grab a handful it'll leave a big black streak in the snow under the exhaust I'm not sure if the PCV is to blame or the person writing the Map I was looking at the bullydog gt because I like the data logging feature and it seems more and more companies are heading in that direction. am I overthinking this should I just run a wideband and watch AFR's and tune off that?

Wideband be the way to go I'd think. You can pick them up in the $200-ish range? If I'm not mistaken the Bullydog loaded with a map is about $850?

Sounds like your biggest issue is the map that you've been supplied with your pCV, that should be able to be tuned out. Or maybe SLP (I'm assuming you got it from them?) hs an updated map?

Another option, is call Jim at DTR, see if he has a map built for that combo. He got me one for a BMP pipe setup, runs like a champ.

A bully dog loaded with a map from SLP is 499.99 if you buy direct from them if you already have the bully dog they charge 100 per map.

Who did your porting and head work? All maps are not the same and will need to be written around your motor work.

I realize that which is again why I was liking the data log features of the GT, SLP has a stage 3 Map written which is very close to the mods done to my sled if something isn't right I can log it and send the map back to be altered. I've tried working with the engine builder with very little resolve which is why I'm now seeking alternative options

My point is , you can data log it and send it in to be modified. But, will they modify their base map for the $100.00 price? It has been my experience that a custom map usually costs more than that. Can't you add a pod 300 to your PCV, data log and adjust your own base map that way?

I've seen it used with less than impressive results, ended up going to the pod 300.

I've done it back in the day and was able to dial in my stuff fairly well.

Without an WB O2 (Autotune add-on) and a POD to record data,
I don't see how one is going to back into a map that works, especially using a third party.

Using the stock egt for tuning on a Polaris can be done (if you go
the BD route) but it is slooooooow and has a non-linear curve
which could make things tricky. The good part is that you'll find
the exhaust temp where timing is removed and fuel added if you
pay attention...

Do a search for "PCV" in Performance/Modified" and there is a ton
of info in there for tuning with a PC V. First you will need to show
posts from the "beginning."

I run a pcV with wide band and pod. Super ease to data log and modify your tune. Just run a data log, download it and see what afr you are at a given rpm, if it is too high or low then change the numbers in the surrounding areas, save the tune. Test. With the pod you can do if from the dash based upon you rpm perameters, low-mid-high. The pod will read 4 screens at a time or a single afr if you want. That is how I am dialing in my turbo. I actually have both a bullydog and pcV on my turbo and the pcV is easier cause you aren't relying on someone else to send a change to the tune as the conditions change. I send the data logs from both in and they modify the bully dog and I can set the pcV back to 0. Then I test and data log again and modify the pcV to my liking.
