Trying to make a decision...

I'm currently debating on selling my summit xp SHR 860 and buying either a dragon/rmk 700 or 800. I want to put a turbo on...I think I'm going to go with Silber. I haven't heard anything bad about that guy or his clean and simple kits. My concerns are boondocking through the trees and tight technical areas. I have not had the opportunity to ride one of these with a turbo, but i love the way they hand without. Also, how do these hold up to a beating from jumping and drops with turbos under the hood. Is everything with the turbo kits mounted pretty solid? Any info is really appreciated, i just don't want to drop 4 grand and not be happy with it.

thanks

To Bad

Its too bad that you have never rode a turbo dragon. I never thought I would turbo my dragon 800 until I went riding with someone who had one. I tried climbing a hill and barely made it half way. He let me ride his sled and I was riding a wheelie over the top. Riding in the trees it felt stock until you go w.o.t. I did notice that if it stopped and was idling and then you immediately give it gas their is some hesitation, but once the rpm's are up you don't notice any difference on the lower power levels. Then you take them to a hill and go w.o.t. and they really come alive. Well, now I have a turbo on order for next season. The turbos are mounted securely, we were jumping his sled and and riding pretty hard and things stayed put. Hope this helps.

08 D700 BD PGT

I went with a 08 D700 BD PG turbo and loved it! I had Tri City install mine and the bottom end was really good compared to others that I rode. I'm not sure how much of the bottom end was in the install or tuning but mine was still very good for boondocking. Don't get me wrong it still had some lag and I had to learn to ride different but it still kicked in the trees and I was happy with the decision. A couple buddies I ride with have T sleds that the bottom ends were not too good. That kind of made the boondocking a pain in the ars.
Mine has held up great in 2 seasons of jumping, beating, rolling, dropping cliffs and cornices. I had a little accident that bent my tunnel, tore up my front end, even broke the engine off the mounts and the turbo was still working like a champ.
Anyway, you'll love the T. The last 2 years on mine have been amazing!

Is there anything i need to look out for if i buy an 800...i've not heard too many good things about them..

if your leaving it stock... than there are some worries... turbo'd none what so ever. i put over 3300 miles on my stock motor with a BD turbo running boost levels of 12-15lbs durring the 08-09 season was pull the rope and go every single day. i change out my top end every 1500 miles just to be safe but i have never had a failure. and when indy dan tore my motor down last summer to professionally build it up he said my crank only had .002 of run out and spec is .001-.004 i believe so its amazing how much power and abuse these sleds will take. a lot of guys on here say there isnt that big of a difference between a 700 and 800 turbo and maybe if they were both set up by the same guy and running great there isnt... but i've been around 3 d7 turbos and they are a lot slower than the d8 turbos in our group

Thanks alot guys....VERY VERY good information. I think i'm going ahead with the purchase of a polaris. Just need to find a deal, which isn't too hard right now.

I thought the snap ring groove was breaking off in the case??Unless i'm thinking some one else, and you caught it just in time??

yes, most all of dans posts are very informative.

you gotta remember to thats after like 3000 miles:face-icon-small-con

yes that is my motor... however dan stated himself that, that may or may not have even caused an issue... since it was only the top section of the case that was splitting away. His torque master bottom end kit completely eliminates that section of the case, and i highly reccomend it to all serious turbo users. But, there are not many guys on here put on over 1000 miles a year, so that still gives the average consumer 3+ years of trouble free, i'd say thats pretty good for a boosted sled

silber kit

i run silbers kit on my 2010 dragon 800 i love it. it takes about half a ride to get the attitude box dialed in. I rode my sled hard this year and didnt have any problems.

what is the most common problem you guys are seeing when going to a turbo setup? This goes for any kit. Please be honest, and try not to play favorites.

technically speaking reeds cant really delaminate, its the throttle body boots that attach the throttle bodies to the reeds that delaminate. the reeds wear out over time from the extra boost pressure... the don't seal properly on the cages after 800ish miles is when mine start to go bad
