True HP for 2010 M8

I read an article on HCS that claims the new 2010 cats have 8% more power.
Here is a quote from the article.

For the serious performance rider, Arctic Cat virtually redesigned its laydown 800cc twin. The 794cc liquid-cooled 2-stroke gained eight percent more power while shedding five pounds of weight. The power goes from 140 to 150 horsepower for 2010. Much of the weight change came from the 4.3 pounds lighter weight crankshaft. That means the engine spins more quickly, which accounts for the noticeable increase in acceleration. You’ll find the engine was fitted with new pistons, cylinders, head and revised exhaust valve reed petals. The electronic fuel injection was revamped and remapped and, of course, the exhaust was redone to accommodate the upgrades.

I still think a 2009 with the speedwerx or slp pipe kit will produce just as much power and the 2010 allready has a tuned pipe so you will not see the gains out of the performance pipes on the 2010. The 2010 will surely be nice though.

Not stating it is, just another comment on the hp. Cats website also does not state that the engine puts out 160hp, it says dyno tech research easily saw 160hp. Dyno tech research also saw 160hp out of the old engine with just a pipe. I am not saying that this thing is not going to be a ripper, I am sure it will. I love my 09 cat and would buy another in a second.

I think this sled will be noticeable quicker than the 09, simply because the cost of revamping the 800 motor for only small gains would prove to be a poor return on investment. This will be a 160 +/- HP stock sled, and I feel Arctic Cat is more focused on keeping their word about weights and HP lately. There is no doubt in my mind that this engine will be strong, and I trust that Suzuki has the brain power to keep it together :)

I read an article on HCS that claims the new 2010 cats have 28% more power.
Here is a quote from the article.

For the serious performance rider, Arctic Cat virtually redesigned its laydown 800cc twin. The 794cc liquid-cooled 2-stroke gained twenty eight percent more power while shedding twenty five pounds of weight. The power goes from 140 to 180 horsepower for 2010. Much of the weight change came from the 14.3 pounds lighter weight crankshaft.

The old 800 had like 146 hp i think, it might of been less, but it was more than 140. im pretty sure the new motor will have more than 150 hp too. They are just taking the exhaust off of the 1000 and putting it on the 8 so that isnt exactly redoing it. The aftermarket companies will just have to make a better product if they arent seeing big enough gains from their existing products.

I'll be keeping my 09, but I hope it is 160+...that should keep the Forum going strong next season.

By the way, did 'Cat change the intake on the 2010's?

I really thought Cat would redesign the chassis in 2010. I don't think any of the manufacturers came out with anything worth upgrading too. Might as well keep your current M's and wait for the 2011's.
