Truck-snowmobile alarms. What do you have?

I want to put an alarm in my truck, not to save the truck but to save the sled. i figured that an alarm that would go off due to rocking would be the best, if someone were in my box trying to get the sled out. but aparently alarms do no work of "rocking" they work off a shock. Also i figure if someone wants my sled then they will just take the whole truck/sled all at once, i think that i've heard of this more then just taking the sled. Most of the time my sled is on the trailer anyway and i think that if i could get an alarm that would go off over "rocking" if someone jumped on my trailer it would go off

Anyway i would like to hear any ideas anyone would have

Works great and you don't have to worry about them coming back.

On a serious not. Have you looked into a GPS tracking system?
Install it on your sled. If it is stolen they just activate it. Sort of like Lo-Jack.

i like the first idea better,

ya i have heard of the gps thing, not srue where to get it and i think it is expensive. i found a device today that is used to stop people from stealing rims off cars, when they jack the car up the alarm goes off, so when someone jumped into the box the alarm should go off, and i say should which isn't good enough

Rabid Putt bull with a bad case of Mange. GPS locator is a good way to go and don't advertise to anyone that you have it. Alot of thefts occure from people you've met. You'll have time to brag to them about the GPS when your punching in their face as the cops are dragging you off of the guy. Bury it somewhere not noticable that you have to dig for that you don't think someone would immediatly find if their looking for it. Think of if you sled were locked up on the trailer and you don't have the keys etc. What would you do? Smash and Grab or pick/cut locks etc. But always plan on them getting their hands on your sled. How are you going to track them down to break their legs?

how much is a gps system, i tried to look for them online but no one would say prices. i'll call a shop tomorrow.

i heard a good story about the gps in alberta, a guy got his truck stolen, located it on the computer called the cops and they busted a huge organization,

I just chain it to my box tie downs, if they want your sled/truck bad enough they are GOING to take it, pretty much no matter what you have. GPS might track it down but it may be to late. On a side note, my insurance company won't give you theft insurance on a sled older then 10 years, whole year I was under the impression my sled had insurance, glad nothing happened, because my truck insurance doesn't even cover the sled if it's in the box

I have a motion activated alarm in my trailer and also on my truck, wasent cheep but it works. trailer also has trip switches on all 3 doors, and fug is it loud!! Got it from a car stereo place.

You could put sensors on all the doors so that as soon as they open the alarm goes off. You could have a motion sensor on it also. Seperate alarm for the trailor so If they try to steal the trailor or open any of the doors the alarm goes off.

Being an owner in the electronic biz here's what we do.

Mike has the right idea going to the car guys, obvoiusly they know how to protect a car. Most guys with anything have extra batteries in the trailer and it should have it's own alarm. Door pins, motion sensors, multiple sirens, level sensors are all good ideas and are pretty basic stuff.

When you aren't around is the problem. We have a GPS in the trailer and truck with separate alarms in both. When you arm a GPS tracking system you can set the geofence for 0 movement which means they don't get out of the parking lot, let alone unhook the trailer, without a trigger for the tracking company to call the cops or your buddy who has your alarm plan. How about when you unhook the trailer from the truck the armed alarm locks on the trailer brakes? All those things give the cops more time to get to the location.

There are lots of ways to deter theft, use your imagination.

Autopage www.autopageusa.com 2 way paging alarm with a electronic tilt sensor added. This set up can also start the truck to warm it up. The regular pager can work from a mile away but the new thing coming out this month is control and paging though your cell phone. It can also do GPS locating on your cell phone and computer!

wonder how hard it'd be to integrate an alarm system into an existing vehicle alarm.... I have a few extra inputs on my truck's alarm. You see the anti-theft things at computer stores all the time, can't believe it'd be too hard to do something like that on a truck.
