Troubleshooting heated grips on an 06' M series

What's the best way to troubleshoot the heated grips on my wife's 06 M7? They worked last season now nothing? I changed the grips over the summer but was very careful not to damage the heater elements.

Can they be tested with an ohm meter? I don't wanna cut off a new pair of grips if that is not the issue. She needs her heated grips.

Yes you can check them with an ohm meter, there are 3 wires going to the heating element (at least on my M) a common lead, and the other 2 are for low and hi, the low should give you a reading of around 8 ohms, and the hi should give you a reading around 16 ohms. If you don't get close to those numbers, then you have a break in the element.
