Trips on veggie oil?

Anyone else out there run there diesels on veggie oil? I made one trip out to WY and a bunch of trips up to the U.P. from southern WI on veggie oil this last winter. Actually, those trips were made on Biodiesel. This next winter I have plans on running Straight veggie oil to make 3-4 trips out west. Obviously this I have a heated setup.
Any other crazies out there?

I work at a ford dealer and have seen a few running on veggie oil but they stink. Some of the old 7.3 fords have been running on ATF and they run pretty darn good on it.

I think you were running some of that old french fry grease in that apex too. Everytime I helped dig it out, I got the munchies!

i need to convert my tdi into one of those!!!

What system are you using to convert the oil into usable fuel?

I use two 55 gallon drums..one dirty drum other one clean. Oil flows from dirty drum (after being heated to 150 for 12 hours) then through harbor freight pump and through 3 water treatment filters from home depot. Final cleaning stage 5 microns. Flip a switch and pumps into car. Sweet set up. Prolly have bout 200 bux in it total. I have the plan if you want it.

I have been running it for about 2 years in my 2001 7.3. Works awesome I have only run straight veg oil. I made my own kit wit hose in hose and heated tank. I have 2 tanks that I can use depending on how far I go. One 35 gallon and one 120 gsllong they both have quick change fitiings like hydrualic fitting for quick change over. I can make it from MN to dubois WY on and about 1/2 way back on my 120 gallon tank. That when I make the freinds pay. For any one out there that is strongly thinking about doing this it is a mess and takes alot of baby sitting when filtering. It is also getting hard here in mn to get the oil. I have been latly running used motor and that has been working greAt. The key to this is big time filtering I starr out with a 20 micron water filter then 10 then 5 then it go thru a centerfuge (sp) that will bring it down to 1 comes out of there looking new. You can not run syntheic or it will gum your injector up. Don't ask me how I know. If any one has any question feel free to ask I have spent way to much time and money doing this and if I can help one person the troubles I had it would be worth.

yea bud, drop me an email with those plans: phatso@gmail.com
what about the heated tank the in the TDI?
Where do you get the used oil from? and is there any waste to dispose of?

I bought the greasecar tank and lines. Really nice easy install for our TDi's. As for oil finding I have found more oil than I really want. I go out to lunch everyday and hit all those joints up then I figured which ones had best oil and dropped the others. I have one cafe' that gives me 10 gallons a week at each location ie 2 locations=20 gallons 20x42 mpg is 840 miles a week in FREE fuel. This is actually about right for me as I am building a surplus. When ever my tanks are to full I just fill up my buddies truck in summer and he runs some free fuel out without any conversion on his rig.

here is a snapshot from the pdf file plans. I will email who ever wants them since I am a retard on figuring out how to upload the pdf and make it a link???

devilrmk on here has ran a few different things in his rigs.

seems just about any type of oil or lube will work.

Sounds like we have a very similar setup. I have a home made kit as well on my '02 powerstroke. Mine's hose on hose. I have a 70ga heated toolbox/tank combo. Will be bringing 150 gallons(3 barrels) of SVO along on my trips from WI to WY.

And TurboM700 is right. It def. is work. And it's messy and smelly. But it's fun and rewarding all the same. And it makes trips out west much cheaper. Running veggie out west saves us about $500-600 in fuel.

For filtering/dewatering:
I settle my oil for 2-3 months. Pour in dewater/filter rig(55 gallon drum), heat to 140*, run thorugh a 200 micron filter bag, run through certrifuge a couple times, test for water, if its good.... then I run it through 2 filters- 1st a 10-20 micron, then a1 micron final filter. Then its ready to use.
