How do you get to the area around the Tripod lookout. The road from Clear Creek is plowed but I was told there is a locked gate when you get down the road a ways. Do you have to go down to Smiths Ferry to access Tripod? Heading there is the morning to explore

Tripod Lookout

I don't know if you made it up to Tripod Lookout yet but the best way is to go up from Smith's Ferry. We ride there all the time and it only takes about 30 minutes to get up there from Smith's if you know the route to go. Let me know if you need some directions from Smith's and I can try and walk you though it.

I can take you therewe do it weekly but this all depends on what you ride.

go over there every weekend... we come from cascade cut over the ridge but it gets pretty gnarly..

I didn't make it there this last weekend. There was a fun run out of smiths ferry and I didn't want to fight all the traffic. Ended up going above Goose Lake. I ride a Summit 800 xp so the steep stuff is what I like. Or should I say I try.. I was looking at the map out of smiths ferry and there is a lot of trails that go around the backside but none up through the bowls to the lookout. Where about do you turn off trail to head up?

I have know idea.. from cascade theres no trail to go that way...
