Trim 3" track?

While I love the track in the dry Revy snow in the trees, I have to admit that when there is a firmer base, my 3" doesn't perform better than the 2.6". As a matter of fact, in WA mashed potatoes, my 3" gets killed by the 2.6" and it gets squirrely on a sidehill and wants to wash out.

I am considering doing the old track trim on every other outside lug of .25".

Anybody done this on the new tracks?

I had an X3 on my last Pro and it was good but had some down falls as well. It would be very interesting to see the results of trimming a 3", so if you do it, please report back!!

One thought would be how the durameter would change????

i remember the F-bomb trim did make the track hook up a lot more in heavier snow....however, I think they trimmed all the paddles. I'm thinking of leaving the centers and just trimming every other outer paddle. It may not be enough but it may work like a "skip tooth" chain saw blade which I love! If it needs more, maybe trim every other center offset from the outers. Maybe the best of both?

I have to imagine someone has done it.

TRS did some track trimming where he trimmed the outside lugs down some and left center alone (if i remember correctly )

interesting test

TRS did that for cooler clearance and enhanced snow evacuation. IIRC it worked very well and eliminated the dreaded Track to tunnel braking action even when tensioned to spec. And allowed them to retain the 8 Tooth driver?

On my 14 pro I trimmed all my outer lugs down about .2 inches, It worked way better in the hardpack snow and still worked in the power, maybe even better. It left more tunnel clearance where the coolers are, held a better sidehill, and had more track speed. I've been wanting to get a used 3" or 3.2" and trim all the outer lugs down to about 2.8 and try it on my axys. If you do this please post back, thanks.

The newer timbersled tracks(snow bikes)have a slight radius/tapper to the out side paddle which seems to help. Been thinking about trying this on a sled but have not yet. Anyone try this....what did you think?

I trimmed about .4" off every other outside track and am very happy with the difference. Yesterday was 3-4' of barely get moving on the flat snow and I noticed a little improvement. Today's untracked had settled a bit and normally my 2.6" buds would outclimb me....not today. I outclimbed them!

also, had a new (80 mile) 3" to ride with today that was turning a clean 8300 and I most definitely outpulled him while only turning 8050. The 3" is great but on deep but thicker snow it just folds over too much and can even get sketchy on a critical side hill. I think this is the best of both worlds! Steel shaft, chain drive, lower gearing, and great for blower pow or mash potatoes.

good luck
