Tricks on getting the gas tank back on

Ok so in the middle of putting the sled back together after fixing the coolant lines and adding the washers. So whats the trick..chant get it to fit back in easily

thanks

When I had my tank off last year, I had the same problem. Double checked to make sure there were no wires where they shouldn't be and then gave the back of the tank a good shove with my foot. No problems since then plus the seat fits better now than when I first purchased the sled used.

I'm puting mine on right now. Make sure all the wires/connectors are right in front of the ecu and push hard. They sure didn't design this motor/sled for maintenance!

yup, when we rebuilt my buddies we couldnt believe how hard it was.... just make sure all the wires are as flat and out of the way as possible and then push HARD... it tiiok both of us pushing to get his far enough forward to bolt up:eek::eek:

Some responses I got on this were....

Use a strap and pull it forward.
Push really F'in hard.
Get it to where it's comfortable and as far forward as it'll go and drill new holes and mount it there.

Like said above, make sure all the connections are behind the ECU and nothing is caught between the gas tank and oil/coolant tanks. Also, check your little rubbers on the top, they can get pulled out and cause problems.

I just pushed real hard on mine and got it to go, but if I would have read the "drill new holes" first I would have done that since I only had about 1/2" I was trying to squeeze out of it.

ratchet strap from footwell to footwell, wrap your strap around back of the tank, and crank nice and easy while making sure all lines etc are out of the way

Just one more thing to check after the tank is back in. Make sure the vent line does not have a kink in it.
When I pulled my tank off, the last thing I took off the tank was my vent line so it got pulled out of place a little. On my second ride after getting everything back together, I started loosing power it seemed no matter how much I leaned on the throttle. Replaced the plugs and it worked better for 5 minutes then bogged right out and died. Started checking everything that I thought it might be. Took the gas cap off the tank to visually check the fuel level and my tank swelled and you could hear it suck in air. Vent line had kinked and was creating a vacuum in the tank. Straightened out the line and took out the slack. No problems since.

After multiple tank removals I forgot to hook that vent line back up!! Went on a ride, and after coming down a steep face and resting at the bottom, I smelled fuel really bad.......I almost had a burn down. So remember to hook that line back up properly. Then drink :beer;
