tribute to the military

My hat is off to those in uniform. They are the finest among us.

My Dad was USMC. Of course he would say "is".

They dont sit on the bus....did you catch that?

Dad, emails me stuff everyday and most days I dont read it but yesterday I did. Here's what he sent.

Every now and then, in the middle of the constant barrage of trash that annoys most of us, comes a story, a feat, an event that makes us feel good.
This was one for me.

Cody Green was a 12-year Indiana boy, diagnosed with leukemia at age two. He loved the Marines. His parents said he drew strength and courage from the Marine Corps as he bravely fought the battle into remission three times. Although he was cancer-free at the time, the chemotherapy had lowered his immune system and he developed a fungus infection that attacked his brain. Two weeks ago, as he struggled to fend off that infection in the hospital, the Marines wanted to show how much they respected his will to live, his strength, honor and courage. They presented Cody with Marine navigator wings and named him an honorary member of the United States Marine Corps.

For one Marine, that wasn’t enough ... so the night before Cody Green passed away he stood guard at Cody’s hospital door all night.

Nowhere on this planet is there a country so blessed as ours to have such men and women. This American Marine, like so many of our service men and women are true patriots and wonderful people.

I had to watch it a second time. I always make sure when I see someone in uniform, I take the time and tell them Thank You. This is the way my dad raised us and how we raise our daughter. My dad was in the Navy. He thought every kid should go to the service after high school for 4-years before they do anything else. He said it would make it a better place. I wish I would have done it.

He was veteran-proud - tried and true;
He'd fought till his heart was black and blue.
Didn't know how he'd made it through
The hard times.
He bought our house on the G.I. Bill
But it wasn't worth all he had to kill
To get it.
