Treed.....Can I stretch it back out?

Ok I have a dumb question. Sled....06 summit x.

So we were riding off the hill yesterday and I made a poor judgment error while trying to escape a tree well. Long story short, my right ski tried to make it to the right of the tree while the sled and me were shooting hard for the left side. Nothing looks majorly bent. However, the right ski is about 4-6 inches further back while sitting on the trailer. Also, the right engine access panel will no longer close correctly. It looks as if I bent the front bumper down and back towards the rider slightly which gave me a gap between the upper plastic (gas cap area) and the right engine door. The only bend I can see or displaced piece is where the right side front upper control arm connects to the frame. The black u shaped holder is cracked and the aluminum is pushed away from the belly pan about a half inch (back). The left side is flush with the belly pan.

I can also see that the machined aluminum ski arm is canted out at the bottom (chamber is off). The left ski arm is vertical while the right is slanted out at the bottom.

Does anyone have any recommendation on how to straighten this out. At first thought I was wondering if I could stretch it like they do a car at an auto body shop.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

it usually diamonds the front end--as 1 side goes back the other actually goes ahead--we hook them to our frame machine --tying one side back to anchor and pull the other foreward--:D:D

Good One

Glad I called it a night.:D I can almost bet you bent the NUN I think the parts are just under $300.00 and about a good 6 to 7 hours plus :beer;:beer;:beer; Breaks = 12 hours or so. That is if you did not bend the motor plate.

Tie a nylon strap to the pushed in side (impact point), connect the other end of the strap to something solid (I used a 6-yard dumpster), put the machine in reverse and ride it backwards and it will pull (jerk) it back into position. It doesn't take much, so be carefull and do it severial times, and a little bit at a time. Worked for me, but mine was only pushed back two to three inches.

I am willing to bet you bent the frame as well as the nun. Check just behind the can. The aluminum bracket the can leans against is most likely shaped like an s. You can replace the nun and straighten out the bracket and put in the 440 race sled stiffener. Work real good and will be just like new. Just will take a lot of work. Good luck.

If the right side door won't close right it most likely bent the front of the tunnel where the motor mounts. Look behind the muffler to see if it's bent. Look on the left side where the rubber anti torque pad hits the case -is there a gap? The front of the tunnel where the motor sits is like a big aluminum shoe box. The nun bolts to the front of it and the whole thing is stabilized by the members that run up to the bar support and back to the tunnel by the tank.

Wow

I just got a chance to read all these posts. I was in the bay earlier and found this. * see pics. Is this a total loss? I wouldnt mind a new sled? I have insurance.....

Notice in the pics where the sway bar is touching the steering arm. If I lean over on it it rubs pretty good.

the question is, will it ever be the same? If not, then why not upgrade. I may have full SLP power pack for sale shortly.

Keep the ideas coming. Afer we pounded out the majority of the crease (it looks better than we found in the beginning in the pics) The ski moved a bit forward but the suspension is still pushed back. That means both pieces are bent....Sweet.

I need a new sled

It is 100% repairable. However if you want a new sled and you have insurance go get a quote from a dealer on it. They will quote you a new frame, cross-member, pan weld, and labor etc. It will total the machine out. I have about 30 revs that I rent out and each year we see a half dozen of these. I do not replace the frames. If you want to repair you can do so it will just take a couple days of work and about $400 - $500 in parts. Just make sure to use the 440 stiffener to fix that s bend behind the can. If you need some part #'s let me know I can find them for you.

my buddy did the exact same side on his rev but at 30-40 km/hr on a downhill .....bad turn out. and i did it bout a minuet before him on my xp. mine ripped the A arms off and cracked the NUN . his was totaled . point being the new xp NUN's are now sheet alluminum they are a cast aluminum "or sumthing like it" abd are way eaisier to replace...

WHAT"S THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN!:D:beer; Was that the famous last words of that afternoon? Total it and buy it back from your Insurance, I need a parts sled! ;)

MTNPULL,

Can you get me the part numbers? I am going to hook it up to tree and a come allong today and try to make it ridable for the rest of the year. Is the 440 race stiffener an add on? Could I straighten out what I have and bolt it on over the damage? It has a full SLP power package and a brand new factory track. Thats about 2500 in goodies.

Which sled one the battle of the 8's in the latest mag?

Pan Weld 518323239
Crossmember 518324694
Front Plate 518324726
Tunnel stiffener 518324096
Bolt for stiffener 207063044 1 qty
Nut for stiffener 233261414 3 qty
bolt for stiffener 205051644 2 qty

Yes the 440 is an add on. It really should have been spec on all revs. To best straighten it out you will want the cross member (nun) and pan weld off. Then it is helpful to get a thick, heavy flat piece of steel to put behind it and tap it back into shape with a rubber mallet. Before you start tapping it back into shape, you will want to remove the current stiffener which is just a thin strip of aluminum secured in place by rivets. Good luck.

I am going to attempt to put tension on the ski with a come allong and then pound out the damage as best possible using the mallet and steel idea. At that point, can I just bolt on the 440 race stiffener? If someone has a picture of the race stiffener that would be helpfull.

Wildman, your commin over to help me right. I know you would hate it if I got an 09 X in your favorite color.

he he

Here's a pic for you. I think you will have a hard time trying to install the stiffener without taking the front end off, but it may be worth a try.

Do I go riding or do I fix a Doo? What time tonight? I think I figured out what your problem was with all the trees on Tuesday, you just wanted some green for St. Patrick's Day.

Its megs B-day. We are going out. I might hook it to a come along before however. You should come out with us! I am going to borrow a big boy hammer and some 1/2" steel palte to work with. I might as well make my own stiffener with aluminum from work...
