transmission question?

I've got a 2004 f-350,about 119000 miles on it. On my way home looked down at the tranny temp gauge, and it was indicating that it was cold like it wasn't working. plus the check gauges light was on, also the tow/ haul light was flashing! I keep driving and all seemed fine. The temp out side was 16 degrees out. When i got home I turned off the truck and let it sit for a while. I checked the transmission fluid it was good, and clean looking! Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I like the truck, it has always ran good! I hope its not something big (like a new tranny!) Thanks

Make sure you follow your owners manual on the correct procedure to check tranny fluid level.

My GMC requires it to be warmed up, shift thru all the gears, then let it run with tranny in park, then check the level.

My Honda Civic says to check via a different sequence.

You could go to the auto parts store and borrow their code reader, plug it in and see if anything comes up. This is a free service here.

coulde be a simple as a the temp sending unit went bad or has a bad connection.
if you plan on keeping the truck, go buy the factory service manual ( not a cheap do it all one from the auto parts store but the factory ford manual ) check restance at the tsu.
