Trailing arm replacement

I'm pretty new to working on sleds, like as green as it gets. I'm replacing my trailing arm on my 02 Edge and have a question. The rear stud/bolt that attaches the trailing arm through the spherical bearing. Does that bolt head actually back out? I tried turning it and the whole thing spins. But it looks like it would have to come off...I was working on it in the dark last night under the carport and decided i'd better ask before wasting my time doing it wrong. I noticed the bearing on the other side is gone too which pisses me off. I only rode the thing 5 times since I bought it so it must have been that way. Lesson learned. Thanks for any help.

Yes that bolt pulls out it has a thin washer and a nut in the tunnel. i beleive they are 5/8 Now what bearing are you talking about?

I guess I didn't see the nut on the backside of it... It looked to me like everything was hidden inside the tunnel but it was dark. The bearing that is in the end of the trailing arm that that bolt attaches. I guess it's a bearing, i don't know what else you'd really call it. it's pressed into the end of the trailing arm. When the radius rod broke and the whole ski and everything kicked out that pretty much ripped loose and there was nothing left there. The new trailing arm i have has one installed but i noticed the other side is gone.

Yes they call it a spherical bearing but it's more like a bushing vs a spherical rod end. If my memory serves me it's not bonded rather held in with a snap ring. When you say it's gone do you really mean it's gone as in nothing there? Do some inspecting while your in there. The trailing arm bushing allows some "roll" movement of the trailing arm but if you roll it too far then you can bend the long mount bolt and possibly tweek the mounting structure. Chinese blueprint it from side to side to make sure things are as they should be.

Yeah, it looked like it was gone. So was the other side when i took the bent trailing arm off. This sled has been sitting for the last 2 years basically since I lost my job in April 2009 and couldn't really justify spending the money to fix it. Now i'm working and out of debt so it's getting my attention. Supposedly the guy i bought it from takes care of his stuff, but it makes me wonder if that bearing on the left side where my radius rod broke may have contributed to the failure. I've had nothing but bad luck with this sled and doinked the hood and pan first time i had it out. But i'm not a quitter and i'll get 'er back together and ride the hell out of it.
