Trailheads that allow Overnight parking/camping

Hey guys, We've been having great success with our "Condo on wheels" so far this season...

So far we've spent 4 weekends at the muddy creek lot at RE, this passed weekend we spent wed-sun at Idleglen in Grand Lake, now that we're comfortable with our setup we're going to start checking out the rest of the state further than Grand County.

Anyone have recommendations on some "Overnight friendly" trail heads?

We're looking to hit the storm in SOCO for New Years Eve thru Sunday (Wolf creek or Cottonwood Pass) anyone have any info on where we could "legally" post up for the weekend?

Thanks!
Jimmy

You can sleep over at vail pass, I've never had a problem there before. You can sleep over at wolf creek as well at the turn off and same with at the mesa but I could be wrong on all these places just my experiences.

What are you using for sleeping arrangements?

I can't think of anyplace that you couldn't stay. Good sized turn outs on the highways are even game. So, you gotta shower in that condo? I want a hot shower after a ride:face-icon-small-hap

I thought VP was no overnight camping...? Im going to call around the ranger offices today for WC & BV area.

CO Powder - we DO have a shower! Works awesome. Something about afternoon showers at the TH...

Lots of places in SoCo if you come back around over Red Mtn. You could shack up on top of Molas Pass and maybe along the highway on Red Mtn, though the skiers may hassle you. Down out of Ridgway you could do my personal favorite, Owl Creek Pass, the parking lot at Vista point is small but sweet.

It just keeps snowing over here in the northern San Juans...

Thanks for the info CO Powder! Sounds like we'll be setting up the Condo at the avalanche trailhead near Cottonwood for the long weekend.

Anyone else have any suggestions on areas not yet discussed? Thanks!

Yeah the Mesa Top trailhead on top of Grand Mesa. Huge parking lot and a decent outhouse setup if any outhouse can be called decent. And right now the snow is awesome! about 9 miles via snowmobile trail to Alexander Lake Lodge for food and beverages. I've stayed there overnight and I see others doing it so I assume it's all good.

We stayed in a pop up truck camper and froze our tails off but the riding was great!

That's awesome! Like your style

Gonna do a similar setup.. Way less $$ than a toy hauler and tons less to deal with!!!

In my past life (pre wife & kid) I loved tent camping on the mtn haha.

Sleeping in a pop up camper??? Oh sh*!!! :smow::smow::smow::smow:
I've slept sitting up in the front seat of my short cab F150 under four blankets a few times in the winter, thought that was bad.....

Not sure if you guys are referring to us or not, but our thermostat works great... 50 while we're out riding, 62 when lounging in our PJ's, 57 when we sleep!

We're heading out in a few hours... If anyone is riding Cottonwood today-Sunday, keep an eye out for us!

Happy New Years!!!!
