Trailer Protector Rock Guards

Been wondering about picking up one of those across the back, mount on the trailer hitch pick up rock guard flaps to protect the front of the snowmobile trailer.

Who uses them and are they worth it?

Any downside to having one hanging there flapping in the wind?

Brand you recommend?

Solid vs. the stranded design?

Thanks.

I've got the Rock Tamer on my truck and it works pretty good. It does require re-tightening the screws that hold it to the hitch every now and then as if you leave it go loose it will sway back and forth and mark up your bumper. I actually cut a sleeve to help hold it straight so hoping this helps. My buddy built his own which when up under the bumper so rocks did not have the chance to bounce up into your tail gate. Had not been an issue for me but I don't drive a lot of gravel. Overall certainly helps protect my trailer and boat.

The installation video shows two bolts for tightening around the male end of the receiver tube. Can't you just keep a nice gap between the bumper and the rod that holds the mud flaps? In the video it looks like it moves in concert with the receiver slop. I would hope with weight on the ball that the hitch wouldn't be able to rotate much inside the receiver housing?

Where did you make your brace to attach?

I built my own with really heavy semi truck flaps and some steel. I'm into it for around $85. I cut the flaps in my table saw. It smells awful and makes a hell of a mess but the flap works great and keeps the dents off my race trailer.

I've tried others but the Towtector is the only one I'd recommended. It easily slides into the receiver hitch and has done a great job protecting my boat and sleds. It'll be on whenever I'm pulling my new Stealth trailer.
