Trailer needs a new jack. I got a couple of questions.

Trailer is nothing fancy, it's just a 2 place un-enclosed ride on, ride off trailer. I need a new jack and it needs to be a bolt on jack. The trailer tongue dimensions are 3"x3".

I picked up one of these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290499433406&viewitem=#ht_3095wt_1044

and it's probably my fault for trying to be cheap but that thing didn't last a week. The first time I tried to use it the mounting brackets didn't hold up and it twisted on the tongue. After a couple of days of using it something internal broke and it wouldn't crank anymore.

I want to make sure I get something decent this time. I've been looking at Fulton only because that's the only brand I'm familiar with, if there's something else out there I should consider, let me know.

I see jacks that are rated for 1,000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 lbs. Is that the total weight of the trailer loaded or do I just need to get something that can handle the tongue weight? Essentially, for this trailer, what rating jack should I be looking at?

Would something like this be good enough:

or is that overkill?

I think that jack is to much for a snowmobile trailer. As for the weight I believe that it is tongue weight so something in the 1,000 lb range should be all you need on an open trailer.

Pretty sure that's the one I have on my 4-place open trailer and no complaints.:face-icon-small-coo

I take that back.... mine's a Dutton-Lainson 800 lb on my 4-place (just looked)

Must have been a Fulton on my last trailer... either way you won't be disappointed with a 1,000 lb jack on a 2-place:D

And yes, just make sure to get the bolts in the closest holes as possible to the tongue to prevent bending the jack bracket:beer;

I like the dual wheeled jacks because they don't sink into the ground/snow as much. Not a major concern or anything, just a preference for a drive off trailer when it's not attached to the truck (easier to lift out after freezing in).
