Trailer Extension?

Has anybody ever welded an extension on a 2/3/maybe even a 4 place trailer? I'm only talking about a couple feet.. Did you have to move the axle back at all? Any durability issues? Towing issues? Etc.
Input and pics would be appreciated, Thanks!

it can be done..but..its not for anyone without serious experience to do..a trailers build is actually a very well thought out process to arrive at a trailer that will haul its intended load safely and reliably...what kind of trailer, whats its factory sizing(including frame dimensions and weight rating), and what are you trying to haul with it?..most common way to do it is to remove the tongue, add new frame rails under the existing rails from the axles forward, while extending the bed to the legth you need(which may result in moving axles, adding axles)..it can be done for sure..but it needs to be very very well thought out....

It's a 12' (~3.5'-4' nose )2 place I just want a couple more feet on the back so I can put a third sled on between the two other sleds. Let's just say when my 144 is on the trailer there's about 2 feet left on the back of the trailer.. if that...

if you extend it, cut the tongue off, add new rails under the old ones and extend it out the frt..then add a second axle in frt of the old one..(1 axle would be maxed with 3 sleds on it, and would be constant issues towing...2 axles will carry it no problem)done right it will work fine and be stronger then it was stock....

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how would the axle be maxed out if they already make 3 place trailers? Is there any way I could beef up the axle strength?

In my experience extending/chopping/hacking up trailers, sell it and buy the right one.

Agreed for the price of the parts and time to do it. Just sell the two place and buy a 3-place. I just sold my 3-place open for $1,300.00. You should be able to get a 1,000.00 for your.

Well for right now I probably couldn't sell it for 1000, it needs a fresh coat of paint... it's all chipped/fallen off of course it's also been probably +10 years since it had anything done to it.
