Hello I have connected the wire that is loose under the hood next to the fuse terminal for the battery feed that feeds trailer for interior lights and battery charging. I still do not have any volts at the plug terminal on the pickup. Does anybody know what i need to do, or have done this before on a new truck, all your help is greatly appreciated thanks.

have the owners manual? i believe you have to install the 30 amp maxi fuse in the under hood fuse box.it is left out from the factory and should have been installed during the PDI (pre delivery inspection) most times ir was overlooked.

Its funny you mention that. I have a friend with a 07 with no power and i don't think he ever had power. Does anyone know which slot this fuse goes into so i can check his out ?????

Thanks

Well i thought that was going to help but no can do. I have located the fuse location and there is in fact a fuse installed for stud 1 and 2 but still no power to the trailer plug. Anybody else have any thoughts on this issue. U buy a new truck and think things should be perfect and this is what happens, would be better off with a old truck at least you could run your own power wire if needed.

look at the harness by the connector u plugged in, there should be two wires with eyelets crimped on from the factory, red with a black tracer, in order for you to get power to the rear you need to hook up those two eyelets to the appropriate studs. 1 is a 10mm and 1 is a 13mm stud. then you will have power. they are taped inside the wire loom most of the time and then the ends taped off. That should do you. any other q's u can call or text me

My vote would be with the left out fuse. My '03 and '06 had to have a fuse put in so that I had power.

So did you hook up the wires to the studs?

I did the same thing with my 08. That wire is for wiring in an aftermarket brake controller. There is a wire taped to the harness going to the back of the truck. Mine was taped with alot of tape and you couldn't see it from the top. A tech from my dealer reached in there and started unwravelling tape till he found the wire and pulled it up. We put it on the stud and voila power to the back. Don't worry it is there it's just well hidden. I don't know why they just don't hook it up at the factory when you get the trailering package:confused:

Power wire is coiled up under the brake master cylinder. The one next to the fuseblock is for an aftermarket trailer brake.

hey m7zr6 and BC thanks for your posts that is exactly what i needed wire was coiled up under master cylinder hooked it up and now have power. If i would have just realized what i was reading on the other power wire it says " for aftermarket trailer power" the word aftermarket kinda sums it up hehe, but anyhow thanks for the posts and I hope this helps somebody else out as well.

the fuse panel under the hood has a dummy fuse in there. not sure which one it is, but like stated above replace with 30 amp and you will have trailer lights. done this on my last 3 duramax's.
