Trail Tank ??????

Just wondering who's using a Trail Tank? I'm thinking of getting a black one vs. packing gas cans. I figure on rides that won't need that much fuel, I can just put like 10 or so gallons in it, instead of filling it full. Also, does the stock gauge cap fit it.

I found a few threads where Jkinzer & Mountainhorse used one, but they are a few years old, so just looking for more current information.

Thanks

Trail Tank

I put one on my 2012 Pro at the start of last season. 1800 hard mountain miles without any issues. Fit, finish, service was great. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Well, I said the hell with it and ordered a tank in black. I also picked up 2012 Pro (black, red, & white) seat from 1200PSI. If all goes well and everything fits AND works, I'll have my BOSS seat up for sale.

No problems with them. In fact a Trail Tank equipped IQ race team took the 2010 Iron Dog race. Did not know they had the Pro models out. Cool. 550iq.

Who makes a trail tank ? Or what tanks are compatible with an IQ?

They are the only source, that I know of, that make extra capacity fuel tanks for sleds. The IQ version allows you to have 15 gal of fuel instead of packing extra jugs on the back of your tunnel. I ordered one in black to go with the color scheme of my sled.

Need to order a few OEM parts before I start the install.

Nice tank. What made you go black? Guess I was too late with the PM?

Would really like to know if the install is as easy as they say. Won't you have to repressurize the fuel injection?

I don't know to ask if your gonna sell the Boss seat or use the same $$$ and buy a tank????

This should answer that: (clear would look really silly)

Pressurizing the fuel system is simple - pull the rope. It took 5-6 pulls to pressurize and start the engine from a completely dry system last summer.

I appreciate a clear tack cause it is veru easy to see the fuel level and get a better sense of the amount of fuel unlike the fuel gage in the gas cap.

The gas cap gage does not compensate for the exponential amount of fuel level when a tank drains relative to the distance on the gage from full to empty.

If you fuel your sled all the way full with a trail tank your gonna fall off from exhaustion before you run out of fuel. I've came close to running out of fuel once(used 13.5 of the 15.5) and when I got back to the pickup I could barely load my sled. That was 50miles in 2-3ft of fresh tree riding. So get the black they look way better.
Just my .02cents

Clear is kinda ugly IMHO, black is the way to go. I need to get an '08 newer pump assembly to use my TT, now I'll only need 4gal extra gas in the back instead of 6-8 like I used to...

I got bored to day, so off came the BOSS seat and stock tank. Got the new seat mounted and the tank in sitting in place for now, as I'm waiting for some new seals and such from Poo. Then I'll finish the install. As for if it's as easy as the instructions imply, I didn't use the instructions - it's a pretty straight forward swap.

Looks very nice. Are you gonna say with that seat or get it redone for color?
