Track shaft broke

06 RMK 900. Riding flat ground and felt like it went into netural with some grinding noise. Got it home and found the track shaft had spun the center shaft of the of the two piece shaft.
Has anybody had this happen.
Thanks Rob

hard ti understand what you said..

but i think you said that the center of the driveshaft spun but the outter ends stayed in place?

thats pretty nuts...havent heard that one, but know of some that broke the speedo section off completely.

i have an 06 900 driveshaft that i will be pulling off here asap to install Avid drivers if your interested in it...so you can get back up on the snow...

PM me if you need it.

That is what i thought at first. I have not got the shaft out yet.
I an working on getting the chain case unbolted from the tunnel and the track out.
But it looks like the end of the shaft where the lower sproket is broke off from the hydroformed tube.
There is just the stub broke off in the lower chain case bearing.
Makes it a pain getting the case out.
Thanks Rob

Finaly got the track shaft out. It broke off the stub shaft on the right side.
The middle shaft dose not go all the way through the hydroformed shaft.
There are just two small shafts welded on to each side. It dose not look verry strong.
Thanks Rob

Pretty crazy deal...its not very common at all..so wouldn't stress the quality of the shaft if it was me.

Get back to me on my pm. Ur welcome to my old one.

Just to let you know, it is not necessary to unbolt the chaincase to remove the shaft.

Now is a good time to replace the driveline bearings and seals anyway... pull the case.... install some new bearings on both sides of the driveshaft and Jackshaft.

Allballz makes bearing kits at a very reasonable price that have all the parts for the driveshaft and another kit for both sides of he jackshaft. If the PTO jackshaft goes bad... its causes some expensive damage.

Guido has the part numbers on the AllBallz kits.

Good time to pull the rear axle/idler wheels and see if the bearings there turn smoothly.

Not a bad ideas on something that is now 6 years old that has a had a catastrophic drivetrain failure.

Here's the post talking about the bearings....

the driveshaft and jackshaft bearing kit from ALL BALLZ is $49.90 for both kits with everything needed.

p/n# 141-9005 $20.95 (jack shaft kit)
p/n# 141-9006 $28.95 (drive shaft kit)

kits include every seal, bearing, clip that is needed from jack shaft to chaincase upper and from drive shaft to chaincase lower.

And the description from the Western Power Sports catalog...

I just replaced all the jack shaft & track shaft bearings & seals and a two wheel kit for the rear axle with new bearings at the begining of last year.
When i bought the machine i found the bearing next to the secondary clutch was loose in the housing and the clutch would move up and down ,so i had to replace the housing that rivets to the tunnel and replaced all the bearings then.
Thanks Rob
