I've got a 2010 nytro xtx 144". after 1000kms this year, my stock track is finished (lost many center lugs and side lugs). Got stuck a few times too and it wasn't pleasant to pull out that beast with fused vertebrae in my back. For next year I'm going to stick with a 144" track as the length is perfect but was thinking of going to a 2" track and shaving down the side lugs to 1 3/4" and putting track screws in those lugs while keeping the center at 2". Was figuring i'd end up with the best of both worlds, traction in powder and steering and traction on the rare occasion i go on the trail. Will probly be installing a VA tunnel, timbersled rear suspension, new skis and s/c as well. Haven't checked into what needs to be done (if anything) to the drive system to clear a 2" track under the nytro, but i will be switching to avid extroverts at the time of the track switch. Please help me out with any information or experiences you guys might have, it'd be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Derek

The XTX should already have tunnel protectors in it, and you are gonna need them for running screws. I advise cutting down the lugs to accomidate the screws, and help gain clearance at the front cooler. I have 200-300 slightly worn screws you can have for the cost of shipping if interested.

Thank you! that would be most appreciated, what is your experience with the screws? do they help or are they just a lug buster? I'm kinda hoping this track will last longer than the stocker, and I may be spending next winter in utah for another co-op placement if everything works well this summer at Z-Broz. from pics on here it looks like they get much more snow than i do so the bigger lugs will be a must.

I use the screws for racing applications where trcation can be hard to find in the rutted up trenches. Screws will def give you added bite in hardpack conditions, but not too sure if they will make much diff for mtn riding scenarios. As far as improving or benefiting track durability, any strength added to the lug by the screw can also be a bad thing when biting into a rock or stump, resulting in tearing the lug off the track.

i hear ya, where i ride now is mostly power lines and we're pretty rocky and stumpy around here. i'm pretty sure that's where i done in the stock track. i kind of ride the sled like a bulldozer and when it starts to go down i keep er wide open to try and catch something for traction. i ride alone mostly so it's a pain when i get stuck to get that beast moving again. i think for next season i will also invest in a sled jack. i took the rear skid out today and had a closer look at the track, it's pretty bad, no center lugs left at all and most of the side lugs are torn off. would make a good asphalt track...lol i thank you for your offer of the track screws, and will probly take you up on them a little later on when i gather up everything to get ready for next season.
