Have a 2004 MC 151.

currently has 2.52 drivers. wouldn't mind upgrading to a 3" pitch and run w/ a 2.5" lug.

what was stock on the king? 8t x 3"P

i am running 9" wheels...if i went to a 156" track, do you think that wheel would suck up the slack? or do i need to drop to a 150" track?

what was the stock gearing on a king?

Stock gearing on the king was 19/43. That works great in the higher elevations. With a shorter track (150 or 156) you might be able to gear up to 19/41. depends how much you weigh also. I went from 159 to 162 using a mountain machines two axle and 9 inch wheels. I think that 9 inch wheels will eat up the difference between 151 and 156. If you get a set of drop brackets you can set your skid back like 2 inches and that will take care of it. Or just get a camo extreme 153. Should bolt right in after you change your drivers.
 
Biggest problem with going 153" is you can't get the Camo Extreme 2.5. Only the 2.25.

However, you could get a 153 Powerclaw, and supposedly it's as good or better than the Extreme 2.5.

cool, thanks guys.

i've also got 19/43 on mine, and i put SJ's on it with a 16 x 151 x 2.31 track. it rips, would like to try the 2.5" track. plus it's a little lighter.

do you guys think it's worth it from what i'm running now? thinking i'd put a 156 x 2.5 x 16.
 
What kind of snow do you ride? If you ride powder most of the time I would buy the claw! It is hard to beat!!! The extreme tends to trench a bit in soft snow.

i suppose it also matters what driver i went to, if i'm running a 2.52 right now, that must be a 9T?

if i drop to 8T, that would be a larger diameter than a 9T, correct?

a 7T would be smaller than a 9T x 2.52...

so stock, the king was running an 8T x 3"pitch with 19/43 gearing?
 
YUP! You are correct.

If you do go with the 3.0 pitch track, I would highly reccomend an anti stab kit of somekind. If you do a search on here, there is some good info to be had. If you would like I can post some pics of mine. Maybe others can post theirs as well. Lots of good ways to achieve the same results. -00's

am now just trying to decide if i need to adjust my gearing, or anything else.

the 8T x 3"P will be a larger diameter- unless i'm wrong, someone please correct me if that's not true.

so, that would be like gearing up with a larger driver, however, lighter track.

i think this is the correct math:

9T x 2.52 x (19/43) = 9.98"

8T x 3 x (19/43) = 10.60"

so by moving to a 8T x 3" pitch, i'm actually gearing up. for every revolution of the driveshaft, the track moves 10.60" vs 9.98"...correct?

does that much of a difference justify moving the gears around? or dropping the helix angle? i've got a straight 53 in it now....could go to a 51 to keep her in low range longer? thoughts?

You are more or less right, although for each revolution of the driveshaft, you travel ~24" with the 8T x 3" pitch drivers, and ~22.68" with the 9T x 2.52" pitch drivers.

So yes, you are gearing up, but the values were a little wrong.

ah- they were 10T. ok, thanks. that makes a little more sense with the math.

especially since kings were all 162 vs some smaller tracks offered that year on the regular MC's. thanks for the help everyone.

will do.

it's a 2.3 x 151 x 16 that i ported w/ (2) 1" holes in the center. very good condition, no tears that i know of or missing lugs.

do you guys think that's a worth while upgrade to go from what i have to the 2.5 and 156? the pitch length, probably makes the 156 & the 151 a wash...?
 
I would go 153 Power claw if you run in a lot of deep powder or 156x16 (9975) if you have a mix of hard pack and powder. each you can just run a 8" or 9"big wheel to take up the slack and still use your rails. the 151 you have is a good all around track tho. hard to say if you gain what makes the cash difference to swap.

76- yea, like 6+ beans for the track....drivers and shaft....all in $700+

could recoup some if i sold my track...might just be better off leaving it.
