The new track I just put on my big bore mod TNT is ideal for ME, it only
weighs 42.5 lbs, 15 X 141 X 2.25 and my sled only weighs 365 lbs dry so still
have the flotation that a stock 800XP has with 150+ inches of 16 wide track.

I personally like something in between, I like to play in the trees and get into some tight areas so the 154'' works well for me. And I think it handles most situations well. Alot of it depends on what your going to do with it. If you want to climb more than anything the 163'' or longer is great.
 
162"x15" Challenger Extreme for me. Never ever had an issue where I felt my track was to long.
 
They all get stuck !! Some people can ride with less and do more and that will always be the case. However I would say challenger verses claw, Claw wins hands down and 153 seems to be a good length >>>>.
 
Need to add 174"! The difference in maneuverablity between a 159/162 to a 174 is non existant! The difference in performance is though! Comparing dollars to dollars you cannot get more power to the snow than buying a bigger track. With my 174x3 I may not win the drag race from the pick up but I will be on top while everybody is working their a** off to get into the good riding.

X2 I'm 19 160lbs with gear on on xp 174 3 people are amazed at were I climb
 
This is something that is different for every one out there. So many variables. Sled size, your size, what kind of riding you do, what kind of snow you get in the area you ride.
 
This all really depends on what you do. I like the 155"ish length for my style. I am not a huge hill climber but if that is all you do, then the longer the better.
 
When Ski doo came out with the 159, and even the 151, I said I would never go longer than a 144. I rode a buddies 159, and I knew it was longer( I was riding a 144 at the time) and when I got off it I asked if it was a 151? I was surprised when I found out it was a 159.

I lots of guys say they notice a difference, but personally, I have only noticed a difference in performance, as far as flotation goes, and have never noticed a diff with manuverability. Even at that, the snow has to be deep and light before I've seen a big difference in highmarking.

I had a XP 154 last year, and when I jumped on a friends 163, I honestly couldn't tell. Now I have a M1000 162, Nytro 162, Rev 159, and an king cat 162. All CE except the REV, and all turboed except the REV.
 
Mostly ride deep powder days off trail so going for the longest track on the list 162, but I've wondered if a 174 might even be better. Not much of a jumper these days so I' going for the flotation.
 
Stretched it to a 162"

I have had this 2007 M8 153 for the last four years. This is the first sled I have owned and it was a great track length to learn on. Now after riding with the Big Boys over the last two years and many trips up to Revy it was time to stretch that baby out and head for the deep and unknown. Can't tell you how many times i have been stuck Boondocking, on and off the throttle. Not every drainage you climb is going to be a point and shoot situation. The longer track will be more forgiving than that 153. I have done real well up to this point being a guy that's 6' and 230! Threw a VanAmburg Boondock tunnel extension on there and a Challenger Extreme 162x15x2.5 Can't wait for this sled to hook up! Have not had it out yet since I did the mod. Should be fun!

I rode a mostly stock 700 Edge 151 for 7 seasons and was able to go 99% of the places I wanted to (and several I shouldn't have). I was never in a situation where I couldn't go with my group.

As of today I've got a 0 miles 800 Pro 163 in my garage.

Now with my new sled and the extra track, not only will I climb any mountain with impunity, I'll be able to shoot down Scud missiles and Klingon warships and stuff. Now if it only had as much horsepower as an XP I'm pretty sure I could cure cancer.

Seriously...I went with the 163 vs 155 because where I ride it's more deep than steep and I wanted the floatation.
 
I've gone longer each year I own a sled. 136"x15 09/10, 159"x15 10/11, and now 174"x16 for 11/12. The new setup is not as fun for playing around, but tractors almost anywhere, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to use a sled for snowboarding access. I would not run a 174 if I was more into just sledding. I'd go 162/163 15" wide for sure. But I've never ridden a shorter sled that actually has some power, just 600's and 700's (bone stock) with 144's.

EDIT: Finally got some snow here and I'm in love with my monster track. Now that its deep(ish) and I'm getting back into the swing of sledding, I'm able to throw this pig around and still have a great time.

Since it seems height/weight seems to be somewhat involved in this decision...what would be best for me? I'm 5'9 and 215 all geared up, 200 no gear. I workout a lot, so I have the umpf to muscle a sled around if needed. I like riding the pow more than I like going up the shoots.

I kept thinking about the 154 but thinking 163 might be the way to go with my weight. Thoughts?
 
I started with a 121, then 136, then 159, then 154, then 163, now going to a 174. Each time I went to a longer track it was much better than my old one. Maybe this means the best track still hasn't been made for me.
 
Should have 174 on there. Nothing beats em when there is 3-4 feet of fresh. They will go the same places the short ones will. In pow the 162 is a shorty lol
 
153 is a great all around length. Going to perfOrm well on deep days and will still be fun on a spring ride. Short enough you can still jump and boondock without bending your rails

I couldn't imagine it would be very fun with a 174 when the snow sets up.
But I like boondocking and snowmobiling is more about the challenge anything bigger would just take away from the fun
