Track is extremely tight

Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
On my 05 IQR I have a MMP 8” wheel kit and the wheels are as far forward as they can go and the track is still very tight. It is hard to turn the track with your hands and my track is al tore up. I am worried that with it being so tight and being so torn up that my 800 is going to shred it.

I don’t know about you guys but the last time I broke a track in the mountains my sled was vandalized and robbed and I broke the handle bars from being pitched over them at high speed. So needless to say, I really don’t want that to happen again. :o

Does anyone have any ideas? I usually run my tracks really loose. I just keep loosening them until they start to ratchet then I just tighten them up a little bit, mark the bolts with a sharpie, put some red thread lock in there and don’t touch them. But I literally have my track as loose as it can be and it is still very tight.

smaller top wheels, smaller idlers, move the skid, smaller drivers..............anything. keep in mind if your track tightens as it compresses you might be looking for a d-shaft and a chaincase too.

What MMP axle are you using? If it's the Freedom axle, are you sure you didn't reverse the offsets? What size were your original idlers? Going to an 8" should not have lost all your adjustment; something don't sound right

Yup, when I put my freedom axle on, I did it to fast and didn't pay attention to the offset. I had to take it back apart and put the offset forward. It ws to tight the other way

Yes, they are as far forward as they go and the little blocks that the wheel rides on can only fit one way.

The track does not tighten as it compresses does it?

If it the freedom axle it will go on the wrong way. the blocks that the wheels attach to should be offset a little up and also forward to the front of the suspension. if they are offset back right now, switching sides will face them forward. and I do believe the track will tighten as it compresses

That is how mine is mounted. I will take a look tonight when its in the shop again but i have a feeling that that track is going to be destroyed with in a week.

If in fact you are running the Freedom Axle, then the wheel mounts can be reversed. xcrash911 has his axle mounted in the "normal" mode, with offset facing forward. Mine is running reversed to compensate for 159-162" track conversion with no rail extensions. Here's a pic to explain what I'm referring to. If you're not running the Freedom Axle, then neither of our pictures applies to your situation. And yes, as your rear suspension compresses, your track tightens ... if it's already really tight sitting static, it'll get hammered by hitting the rough stuff  I adjust my track to fit a golf ball between track and slider, mid rail, rear of sled fully suspended and un-weighted as a ball park ... not too tight, not too loose ;)

Yes your track will tighten as the suspension compress's! I know from experience. Not a fun ride! Do not overtighten, you are asking to go over the bars when you hit a woop at any kind of speed! Have fun.

i am 100% sure that i have my wheels as high and as far forward as they can go. If i put them on backwards they would not fit at all.

I guess i'll be taking a chance for the next few weeks until i get my 151 on it... :o

i had the same problem when putting 9 inch billet wheels and the mmp freedom axle on my apex. the only solution to the problem was to take off the track tension adjuster then let the bolt sit at the front of the slot and tighten it. this will let your track run loose like most people like it. I have ran it like this on my apex for just over a full season and zero problems so far.

Just curious if you could get a pic of the actual wheel mounts ... and what size wheels you replaced? Can't really see much with the idler in the way.

Ok i will in the morning. The wheels i replaced it with were the stock small polaris idlers.
