I was wondering what a guy would have to do to put a 151" or 159" track on a 02 summit 800 that has a 144" right know and the cast for it? Also the pitch of the factory track and rail?
IF you want to run one of the 3.0 pitch track you'd have to change drivers.
Your stock 2.52 drivers will be fine for the 2.52 tracks. Extrovert drivers make quite a bit of differance, freeing up some power by reducing drag on your skid, Hyperfax help some more.
you wouldnt have to change drivers if you stay with the same pitch. but you might want to concider putting some anti ratchet drivers on while its apart. i did rail ext on mine when i went from a 151 to a 159.
mine is a 02 summit 800. as far whats best for you as far as track length its hard to say. i myself like the 159 but have ben concidering evan going to 162x16 wide track.
If I would go with the 16 inch track would I have to do any modification to my tunnel. and also i have a 144 so at what lenth to i have to go with a tunnel extions.
A lot of guys didn't do anything to their tunnels, I removed the inside L-shaped reinforcement brackets and put the external tunnel grip/reinforcements from any of the X models on, there are a couple of bolt heads at either end of the driveshaft that it is a good idea to grind half of the head off of so it doesn't tear up the edge of the track.
Wildchild made my B/W ext. and rear drop brackets, think he still hangs out here, does a lot of nice machine work.
I dropped my skid out of the tunnel 5" and the front arm down 1.5 or 2 inches to compensate for the rear drop, made a LOT of differance in flotation and traction.
If you go with at least a 2.25 tall track IMHO you'd be alot happier, I've got about 1/4" clearance with the 2.5, that's with 7t drivers and 19/45 gears.
Don't really know much bout Cat 159, what year did they use that track?
Bout all I could see different on the older Cat tracks were that they had a notch on either side of the lugs for cooler protecter clearance, that shouldn't be a problem.
So how hard drop the driveshaft some to be able to put a 2.25inch lug in there and still have enoght room to clear. Aslo how much does it cast to do that?
On my 02 summit I used rails from a 01 summit with 151 track . The axle was set back different in 02 . The rails are longer on 01 than on 02 .This allows a 159 track without extensions . Just move rear bracket back . Use stock location in front .
