Track Fix Question

I don't know if this is the right place for this but here goes, I bought a 2.5" paddle track that was missing 4 paddles, and I don't really care that the paddles are missing but it took the rubber off with them right down to the cords. Is that going to be a problem, or should I cover that up with something so the cords don't get worn into? Any ideas, suggestions?
