TPS WOT Setting

Installed a tps today and adjusted the baseline with closed throttle and then adjusted the idle screw.. Then open throttle to wide open and found the throttle plates were not open all the way. Adjusted the cable so it would open all the way and the TPS reads 4.0 volts. Has anyone else noticed that the throttle blades were not open all the way?

Did you loosen the adjustment nut where the throttle cable connects to the throttle bodies to make sure that there was absolutely no tension on the throttle body butterflies?

TBH, I have never checked to see if they are completely open at WOT. It's more important to start the TPS setting process with them completely closed....then make your adjustments to .710 volts, then the idle screw to .930 volts.

If you have that, all should be good

No i did not loosen the adjustment nut first. I will go recheck it all maybe that is where the extra play in the throttle plates is from.

What model sled did you install the new TPS on? Are you working on a Carb motor?

Don't be as concerned with full throttle TPS voltage as you should be with base and idle voltage. The ECM commands full fuel flow at less than 4 volts anyway on a CFI. But the throttle blades not opening all the the way when the lever bottoms out on the bar makes me believe there may be too much slack in the cable, a cable issue, or something at the oil pump adjustment.

Remember when you adjust the throttle cable slack, you are also manipulating the oil pump adjustment as well.

I ran into this a few years back on an 08 860 (not getting full opening of the throttle body blades) and found the oil pump cable adjuster housing had cracked. Wasn't getting near enough oil also.
