Well i just got my PC 5 and thinking that i better check my tps to make sure that it is right before i install the pc 5 i found a tps tester kit on SPX polaris for 52.00 is this the better way to go for setting it up correct.

I would like to know too. Still have warranty till oct 15. Talked to dealer about checking tps before warranty runs out, they will only hook it to the laptop to check it.:face-icon-small-fro

Doesn't the PC5 have a TPS check setting in it?

yes but proper calibration of the stock system is crucial before adding on a piggyback. At least thats what I was told... So first have your stock equipment setup correctly then add the PCV and calibrate that correctly. all should be good to go then

Correct.

You must set the T.P.S. first .

Then with the PC 3 or 5 hooked up, you'll need to "synchronize" the PC 3/5 to the sled, meaning idle position and then 100% full throttle.

If "blipping" the throttle wide friggin' open with the sled running on the stand makes you nervous, you can accomplish the same by leaving the sled off and powering it with 12 volts via the 2 pin connector located under the hood near the hood hinges.

Hope this helps

I thought polaris was pretty much the same as a cat, on cats you use 5 volts to power the tester.

T.P.S. setting and PC-3 or 5 synchronization

Just to clarify (sounds like you're combining 2 separate issues)

a) 5.000 volts to set the T.P.S.with the T.P.S. tool. (No PC-3 or PC-5 necessary) ALWAYS set with the engine OFF.

b) 12 volts to the wire harness to power up things like the fuel pump, and in the post above, PC-3/5 synchronization so that you don't have to run the motor at "full throttle" on the stand when synching your newly installed PC-3 or 5 To your sled.

Hope this helps

Kraven, I can get a tps tester from my dealer on loan. I have used this one to check my 04 pro-x 800 a few years back. Will this one work and is it the same procedure. I have a pc5 on it now that I got from spence in ontario and he told me it was plug and go and said nothing about tps. The sled is going to the dealer for warranty work and I was going to ask them to set my tps without using the laptop but figure I better do it myself to make sure. I have some technical knowledge just a little slow at understanding things on first explanation. Lots of beer over the years does that to people. After i set the tps how do I Sync the pcv to it. Go slow I am not to smart. Thanks

Todd,

Same tester is o.k. They're pretty basic, it's only role is to supply an EXACT 5.000 VOLT source and pigtail connector.

Main difference is that the "old" 2004 carb models get set with throttle WIDE OPEN, spec is 4.0-4.1 volts

Injected sleds get set with throttle blades FULLY CLOSED (Meaning FULLY back off the idle screw) Set the T.P.S. to EXACTLY .70 (+/- .01) volts, Then adjust the idle screw to the desired voltage spec (.94, .95 volts, depending on the model) More info under the "INCREASING YOUR IQ" section, my "Tech Tips" thread or "T.P.S. setting" thread

Don't forget to triple check the tester voltage before you start, 4.99-5.01 volts is where you HAVE to be at! A member posted on here a while back, couldn't get the correct tester voltage, turns out his digital voltmeter was bad.

After setting, slowly move the throttle to full and back to idle again, now using a cheapo analog (needle style) voltmeter, the needle should follow S-L-O-W-L-Y. Erratic readings indicate a bad T.P.S. unit.

After all of that, the PC-3 or PC-5 NEEDS to be in synch with the sled! Purpose is so that when your PC-3/5 is at 0% throttle opening, sled is at idle, and when you're at full throttle, PC-3/5 should be at 100% throttle opening.

Set it at idle (sled running and laptop or desk computer hooked up to the PC-3/5) input it, it will come back and "ACCEPT" then ditto at a 2-3 second full throttle "BLIP' and "ACCEPT" again. Detailed instructions are included with the Dynojet PC-3/5, but it's pretty simple once you have the computer hooked up to your sled and all the basic info is right there on the screen. As mentioned earlier, if it bothers you to full throttle it on the stand like this, you can leave the engine off and power it up (12 volts) via the open pigtail connector in the factory POLARIS harness near the hood hinges.

Hope this helps
