TPS Setting with ECU Power-up cable

Has anybody set their TPS using the SLP ECU Power-up cable? I've been to the local radio shack and they have no 5 Volt chips that are within spec. In addition my local dealer is 70 miles away! My thought process is the ECU would feed the TPS with the required 5Volt and then you could back probe the sensor and get an accurate setting. Any thoughts?

That's how I do mine. I have a power commander on my 09 800 rmk that tells me TPS voltage on the laptop. But I power the ECU up with an atv battery and some homemade leads to the wiring harness. If you can get at the tps connector and probe it to check voltage, it should work.
