TPS SETTING TOOL VOLTAGE TOO HIGH??

Hey guys, I'm having a hard time finding a 5 volt regulator that will test between 4.99-5.01 volts. The three regs that I bought, keep testing 5.06-5.08. Is this common, or will it throw my adjustment off too much? I thought maybe by compensating by dropping the setting values by .075 to keep it in the range would work. The sled is running a lot better, but not optimum yet. So the question is, should I just set the stock values to what they should be, and forget that the testing tool is testing high? Any suggestions would be great. Other than to keep buying these 5 buck regulators that don't test well.

Are you using a 7805?
I used one a while back when I made my tester and found it to be right on 5.00v.
You could maybe make a highly accurate one with a lm317 and a 5v zener for reference?

ummmm, Zener..... not sure about all the model numbers. I'll have to check when I get home about the number on the regulator. Just picked them up at The Source. The guys who work there don't know the difference between electrical tape and masking tape!! Clueless. But they are really good at selling you stuff!!

I got Nexxtech 7805 regulators from The Source. The first 3 were out by a long shot... fourth time was the charm, 5.00v on a fresh 9v!Just keep buying them until you get a good one.

Actually, I would not be too concerned with using one with 5.08 as all you are doing is applying it to the one side of the pot in the tps assembly and adjusting the idle looking for .97v on the mid pin or whatever the book calls for, so the difference you will end up with between using 5.08 or 5.0 may not even be measurable on your multimeter. On the wot side, as long as you see the full amount, whatever it may be ie 5v or 5.08v, I would say you're good to go, tighten up your tps screws and go sled.
I did not measure it but would be very surprised that the ECU be set at exactly 5v. You should measure it just for shnit and giggles...

Reset tps this morning as per the specs, .705-.715, then adjusted the idle to .93 and she seems to be running smoother when the track is spun up to high revs. Seems really snappy as well. Me like. Going to go for a night ride tonight to see how she runs on the snow. Stoked!!:face-icon-small-hap

Top notch boys!! Everything worked like a top. Pulled hard, no popping and crackiling, reverse worked all day, idled spot on. Stoked!! Not even oil puking out of the exhaust, like before. I think I finally got her dialed in. Thanks for all the help with the tps b.s. Until next time....
