As stated....TPI VS Carb.

Current bike is a 15 300 xc, ported, race gas, 40mm lectron etc....

Thinking up upgrading bikes with the intentions on going BRC 500 in a year or so or hoping a OEM bike comes out...

What are your guys thoughts?

Yes, gonna stay 2 stroke...

Talk to Collin Hicken, my understanding is that TM has 300 tpi bikes with a better injection system than ktm/husky. He could give you some ideas methinks.

I wouldn't switch just to have tpi. you will probably have less power than your current bike. but the counter balance is a nice upgrade. And if you port/tune a tpi in theory it could be decent but I haven't seen or rode one yet on snow.

TPI with a sliber turbo reflash map and an s3 head absolutely rips, but i'd wait to see the next model year as they might be TBI and far more hit than the transfer port system.

I don't think i will buy new new either way, just might have the opportunity to upgrade.

Id for sure being doing a cut head and flash....just the thought of counterbalance, no carb heat, etc. would be nice

I don't convert my CR500 anymore, wheels stay on it. Not cause of the carb heat, or the vibrations... but the fuel consumption. Carrying 8 gallons on a ride was bothersome.

My 2 cents is so what you understand

For me that carbs. If you’re gonna be fiddling around with changing fuel settings, I would much rather have the ability to do it myself (carb) than relying on someone’s reflash. Unless there’s a fully open system that allows you to really tinker.

Your 40 will work real nice on a 17-21. That’s what I run. I have some notes that I could share.

Ice cold going thru your crankcase is also nice. Bikes make more power directly proportional to crankcase temp, in my findings anyhow.

TPI every day of the week. Balance shaft decreases vibrations LOTS. Electric start really works even when freezing cold. Always proper jetting and just push start and ride.
Have ridden many carbed bikes and would not even switch to a -17 ktm with balance shaft even if I would get it for free. Just because of more riding and no problems. Just my .02
BRC is also a big stay away in my book, since they does not live up to what is promised and has really bad customer care/support. No offence BRC people, but too many that have been treated really bad that I know of.

Glad i held out a bit.....definitely going TBI now. plus 57HP out of the box.....
Have really been hoping to see some comments about this. I run a 2018 450sxf with a riot kit currently. I’m really curious how I’d like the 300 TBI in comparison. Thinking of doing the 300sx for next winter, but don’t want to go backwards in performance (don’t know if it would be or not).

Tbi for sure is awesome we have been running it now for 2 or so months on the tm. It for sure feels great. We have the advantage on the tm of programming the ecu in any manor we would like also. We plan on having one on the snow this winter! On our dyno a 30@ tbi with a programmed ecu and high comp head was 47hp. The tm with zero change was 49 stock. We are going to work on changing things and see what we can come up with. The other thing is the tm is about 30 pounds lighter….

I think your going to want the XC for the 6 speed, prob can add the 6th gear on the sx tho. Also depends how much trail you have to ride

Yeah defiantly looking forward to see what the new 300 TBI can do. I am on a waiting list for a new one and i will for sure be snow biking it. My Current 300 is getting a brc 500 also. Should be a fun comparison. 30lbs lighter than a 450? Or?

Dang...the 2023 ktm 300s are 220lbs without fuel. I thought that was pretty good

For sure good but tm shedded a ton of weight this year… also having an open ecu to program is pretty awesome as all bikes seem to be a little different and that allows you to get fueling dialed for your application…
